• When we landed in Rio the next morning, we didn’t head back to the villa, but took a slight detour and explored the city. A sleek black Jeep Cherokee awaited us as we descended. Javier dismissed the driver, though he allowed his bodyguards to tail us in separate cars.
• “I’m going to be your personal tour guide, querida,” Javier said, holding the door open for me, and sliding on the driver’s seat. “I’ve got something for you,” he said, pulling out a small crystal box. “If you don’t like it we can always change it.”
