Chapter 2 His gaze

  • I adjusted and readjusted on the seat. I was suddenly not comfortable. I felt like a prey under his gaze.
  • Well, don't bother to ask... Him... He is staring at the back of my neck.
  • How did I know?
  • I just know!
  • Class went on and on with my chest heaving slowly.
  • Can't wait to leave this class.
  • The bell soon rang.
  • Oh, thank you moon goddess.
  • I hurriedly picked my books and that was when I realized Daphne's eyes on me. "Are you okay?" She asked worriedly and my lips curved into a lopsided smile. I could not bear to cast a glance at him even though I was facing him.
  • "Yes, what about we go grab some lunch?" I asked her and she nodded her head.
  • I practically sprinted out of the class even though I tried walking but his preying eyes did something to my legs.
  • Daphne and I walked to the cafeteria together and we were using the opportunity to know ourselves more.
  • "My mother is really sick and I don't want her to die. She has been sick for so long." She pointed out sadly.
  • "I'm so sorry about that. I hope she gets well soon." I said taking a deep breath to calm my nerves.
  • My little brother, Sky has special powers that could heal people. Thanks to him, we don't visit the hospital because with one touch of his hand and focus, we would be fine.
  • What if I try to help Daphne's mother. Holy molly! It's going to be very risky.
  • Suddenly, someone grabbed my wrist scaring the life out of me. That scent. I wasn't even paying attention to it!
  • I thought he was in the class?!
  • It was Keiran holding onto me like I was owing him something.
  • "Let go!" I passively yelled and he scoffed.
  • "I want to talk to you. You have no choice." He replied and started dragging me along with him.
  • I turned to see Daphne giving me a calm look and I guess she understood that I needed to leave.
  • He succeeded in dragging me into the janitor's closet and I could only be enraged and not be able to fight back.
  • He looked a little bit livid as he leaned against the door blocking the exit.
  • I noticed how better he looked. He had definitely been working out since I could see stretches of his abs through the shirt. And his hair, they were my favorite to touch. He had been taking good care of it too.
  • Damn it, Umbrie! This guy left you for six months.
  • "Are you done punishing me?" I asked rubbing my wrist were he held me before.
  • "What?"
  • "Why the heck did you come back? I thought you enjoyed being so away!" I stated and he rolled his eyes.
  • "You should be happy to see me."
  • My stomach churned instantly.
  • "I have nothing to say to you, let me out." I fussed.
  • "I'm back, Umbrie. Deal with it. And if you need help with anything especially sexual help, I'm definitely here to help you. You better have some before I leave again." He teased making my skin crawl.
  • "I will never let you touch me, never again. You are going to regret having me as your mate, trust me." I threatened holding the door knob.
  • In a split second, his hand was on mine making me flinch.
  • "Keiran, leave me alone!" I stressed with every bit of me drowning in sadness.
  • "See you later." He whispered before I hurried out of the tight room.
  • I wanted to just head back to the classroom but to a huge shock, I found Daphne standing close and staring at me.
  • My whole body frenzied as I came to the realization that she was here.
  • "Daphne? What are you doing here?" I queried finding it absurd.
  • She wasn't eavesdropping, was she?!
  • "I came looking for you after you left with him. Are the both of you dat —" I quickly waved my hands in the air cutting her off.
  • "Let's go have lunch. It won't be fair if you miss it because of me." I instantly pulled her along with me not wanting to talk about Keiran.
  • ***
  • *After School*
  • Getting Daphne's address without her knowing was difficult but getting Sky to help me heal Daphne's mother was a way more stressful and excruciating process.
  • What if he refused to help me or went ahead to tell our parents?
  • Sky was a sweet soul. An exact opposite of Jared but he could also get crazy with demands when you least expect.
  • Well, I would try anyway. I decided to talk to him after dinner since he spent the whole evening playing video games with his friends.
  • I met him in his bedroom while he was arranging his comic collection.
  • "Sky, I have this friend...." As soon as I lifted my head, a book smashed right in my face.
  • "Ouch!" I cried out rubbing my nose with my hand.
  • "You scared me!" He yelped rushing towards me.
  • Like seriously? If I was something scary, he would have used a book to attack it?
  • I tried to ignore the stinging pain and go ahead with my request. My nose must be reddish right now all thanks to his book.
  • He quickly dropped his hand on my nose and instantly, the pain vanished.
  • "Well, thanks." I blurted still touching my nose.
  • I took a moment to look around his room. They looked very tidy and organized. Good. I'm not sure mom would look for him to clean his room.
  • "So, what do you need? Why are you here?" He interrogated with his arm folded.
  • "You see, there's this friend of mine. Her mother is very ill. I want you to help heal her." I answered.
  • "Human or werewolf?" He asked looking like he was thinking much about it.
  • "Human." I replied and he sighed.
  • "Fine but I can't do it tonight. Unfortunately, Mrs Darfield wants me to read two passages next week. I have to prepare so I don't make a fool out of myself." He said and I heaved a sigh of relief.
  • "No problem. I wasn't looking forward to tonight anyway. I need to get some rest. First day of the term sucks." I breathed.
  • I turned around and left the room bumping into my mother.
  • "Umbrie? Where is Jared?" She questioned looking around.
  • Oh right! I almost forgot what that jerk asked me to do for him.
  • "He's with his warrior friends. They must be studying together." I replied and she nodded believing the lie immediately.
  • "Alright. I hope you are not too tired, I need someone to help me take somethings up to the attic." She stated walking past me.
  • "I'm right behind you." I replied dolefully.
  • I really wanted to get to my room and dump myself on the bed..
  • ***
  • It was close to an hour when mom and I finished lifting the boxes up to the attic where it would be safe till Christmas. She took every celebration seriously unlike my dad.
  • I walked back to my room sweaty, tired and frail. Jared should have been the one to help mom with all the stuff. So much for being a good brother.
  • I entered my room shutting the door as fast as I could. I started taking off my top when my eyes met with the person sitting on my bed.
  • Keiran!!
  • I quickly let go of my top and let it rest back on my body. It would have been a disaster if I removed my clothes completely.
  • "Keiran." My lips called wavering in astonishment.
  • He stood up and walked up to me.
  • "You're sweating so much." He said staring at my forehead and for the first time in a while, I saw how worried he looked.
  • "What are you doing here — in my room?" I asked giving him the opposite mood.
  • I wanted him gone. I really did.
  • "Why don't you take a bath first. You look like you need it." He said and I rolled my eyes.
  • I decided to tease him a bit. I removed my shirt right in front of him giving him a chance to see just my bra.
  • His eyes was stuck on it. He managed to look me in the eye before I sashayed to the bathroom locking the door abruptly.
  • I started feeling giddy all of a sudden realizing my wolf was happy. It was excited and all jolly. I hated it. I wanted everything in me to hate him but I guess my wolf wasn't feeling that.
  • He was Keiran, my mate. When I was sixteen, I turned for the first time becoming a full werewolf. After a few nights, I met Keiran and we felt the mating pull, we were mated to each other.
  • He was from a high class home while I was from a middle class family.
  • Our parents were doing all they can to make us accept each other and I presumed it worked, I liked him and we were able to bond.
  • Later on, he got into a fight with his parents for some reason and he left. For a whole month, I didn't see him. It was too tough for me and I was too worried about his wellbeing.
  • He returned after that and was back into my life. Then another fight broke out between the both of us. It happened so fast that I could barely remember what exactly caused it in the first place and then he said he'd punish me, right before he left again.
  • I thought he would be back sooner, I really did.
  • After a month, his parents grew worried and wanted to force me into sleeping with someone so when Keiran felt the pain, he would come back but I refused because I didn't want myself to be used like that and that was how a month turned into six months and tonight, he's right behind the door sitting on my bed.
  • Oh Geez!
  • I had a bath as quickly as I could before throwing on my robes. It would protect me more than the towels.
  • I unlocked the door and came out slowly. He was still on my bed, this time lying comfortably and operating his phone.
  • "Does your brother know I'm back yet?" He asked not sparing me a glance.
  • "No. I think it'd be better if you tell him yourself." I growled with a smirk while opening up my wardrobe.
  • Jared would definitely beat him up the moment he sets his eyes on him. He was pissed with his he left for so long.
  • After getting a hold of my pajamas, I ran into the bathroom like a ninja. It's better this way.
  • I dressed up and came out, going close to Keiran.
  • I sat on the bed next to him and he ditched his phone putting it in his pocket. I missed him so much. His scent, voice, face, his presence most importantly!
  • He sat properly as the silent atmosphere became unable to bear.
  • "Where were you? Which country or city? Where did you go? Who were you with?" I blurted out my question and it suddenly sounded like I was nagging.
  • "You don't have to worry about me. I was safe." He said and I slowly blinked back the tears that were starting to circulate around my eyeballs.
  • "Who cares! I was never worried about you." I replied sounding hasher than I expected.
  • Then there was brief silence.
  • "There's this book I read. It's about a witch whom cursed an Alpha making him unable to find his mate. He just had to find happiness in the arms of other women whom didn't deserve him." He paused and looked at me.
  • I didn't notice his head draw closer and our faces being an inch apart. His mouth crashed into mine taking over with force and lust. lips devoured me, hard and fast.
  • And I was opening up to him helplessly.
  • I for once mustered strength and touched him by his chest attempting to push him off but he whisked my hands into his driving them behind me.
  • Keiran!!
  • How did from him telling me story get to this?
  • He slowly unlocked from my lips panting like he was now satisfied.
  • I on the other hand dropped on the pillow while catching my breath.
  • He lifted his weight from my body and stood up.
  • "Time for me to go." He said like had just fulfilled a mission.
  • My whole world was shaky. I didn't want him to go. My wolf badly needed him to make up for the six months of absence.
  • I hoped he could see through my eyes, my plea for him not to leave.
  • My whole being wanted to embrace him and hold him tightly. Of course I couldn't do this because I have my dignity to protect. Looking desperate was never the plan.
  • I sat properly on the bed just staring at him. Did he know exactly what he was doing to me?
  • He finally turned around and left through the window. I spent long minutes thinking about how bad I wanted him close. If not for anything.
  • I decided to think myself to sleep since there was nothing I could do at this point. I laid on the bed and covered myself with the duvet sleeping through the cold night.
  • At some point in my sleep, I began having a nightmare. I couldn't understand it but it felt like I was being chased by scary ghosts whom wanted to kill me.
  • I was making a good run for it until one of the ghostly demons stabbed me with it's stick.
  • I jerked up from the bed sweating profusely and pretty creeped out. The light of the room was still on as I left it.
  • I looked sideways and received even a bigger shock as I saw Keiran sitting on the sofa and watching me intently.
  • I couldn't help but pant like I was loosing my strength. He left didn't he? He came back to watch me sleep?
  • "Oh cr*ap!" I cussed lowering my head. Keiran was still sitting there gazing at me and that was when I knew i wasn't still dreaming; I pinched myself and I felt the pain.
  • I was feeling somewhat exhausted and my head spinning with nervousness. It shouldn't be like this. My wolf is very strong.
  • "Good morning." Keiran said sipping into my thoughts. He caused me to look at the clock hanging on the wall.
  • Sh*t! It was five in the morning. And to think I didn't have enough sleep.
