Chapter 7 I'm Dating Amanda Moore Now

  • Joshua Walker returned home and had his lawyer team review the body donation agreement repeatedly, but they didn't find any issues. This made the situation even more peculiar—there should be plenty of people willing to donate their bodies, so why did Amanda Moore specifically target him?
  • It couldn't be because he was too handsome, could it?
  • Joshua Walker thoughtfully touched his chin and looked in the mirror, feeling a bit amused by the idea. Most people would probably reject such a request outright, but Joshua Walker found it an unexpectedly novel and thrilling challenge.
  • Lawyer Vaughn approached him with the property gift contract that Joshua Walker had drafted yesterday: "Boss, what should we do with this contract? Should we destroy it?"
  • Normally, since Amanda Moore had already agreed to the pretense, the contract should no longer be needed. However... Joshua Walker took the contract, flipped through it, and pondered: "I remember Amanda Moore's mother's company is called Montu Entertainment Company, right? Help me to contact this company."
  • He remained vigilant about Amanda Moore. Even though there was no immediate leverage against her, as long as he could control her parents, he wouldn't have to worry about her causing any trouble. It was just a matter of spending more money which he could afford.
  • With that settled, the next step was to let others know about his 'relationship' with Amanda Moore.
  • Normally, people would make an official announcement on Facebook, but Joshua Walker took a different approach. He called James Anderson: "Hey James, I'm dating Amanda Moore now. I'm busy, gotta go."
  • The day after James Anderson learned about it, the whole world knew.
  • The first to lose patience was Joshua Walker's father. While Joshua Walker was still filming on set, he couldn't resist calling several times. It was only during Joshua Walker's makeup break that he had a chance to answer.
  • As soon as the call arrived, a barrage of questions came: "Are you dating Joseph Evans' daughter?"
  • Joshua Walker's gaze softened, he put the phone on speaker and tossed it aside, lazily acknowledging it with an "Oh."
  • Nicholas Walker chuckled coldly: "I thought you had high standards, but I didn't expect you to choose someone like this after all."
  • The makeup artist couldn't help but have a strange expression. Even if a father was dissatisfied with his child's choice of partner, they wouldn't talk about their son and his girlfriend like that...
  • Joshua Walker lazily stretched his legs, dismissively snorting: "You have good taste, so what kind of 'merchandise' did you choose?"
  • Makeup artist: "She was wrong, Joshua was even worse than his father."
  • Nicholas Walker was momentarily taken aback, his heavy breathing coming from the other end of the phone. He seemed to be calming down, and after a long pause, he spoke coldly: "Don't you know what the Evans are like? We've introduced you to reliable people before. Isn't Lauren introduced by your aunt good? Where does Lauren fall short compared to Joseph Evans' daughter?"
  • Joseph Evans' reputation had been poor lately, and he had been eagerly trying to climb social ladders, becoming a joke in wealthy circles. Nicholas Walker really hadn't taken the Evans' daughter seriously. Never in a million years would he have thought that such a family, whom nobody had any regard for, would actually end up with Joshua Walker.
  • Joshua Walker glanced at the makeup mirror, admiring his own flawless and handsome face, and his mood gradually calmed.
  • He replied with a playful tone, raising an eyebrow: "Well, she doesn't have as much money as me, and she's not as good-looking."
  • Nicholas Walker was momentarily at a loss for words.
  • Realizing that Joshua Walker wasn't going to say anything pleasant, he took a deep breath: "Your grandfather has a minor surgery scheduled next week. Make sure to come."
  • Benjamin Walker needed to undergo several checks and minor corrective surgery before the major operation, and it wouldn't be nice to have no one there. Joshua Walker didn't quip this time and simply acknowledged with a grunt.
  • Nicholas Walker brought up the elderly again: "Your grandfather has been mentioning Joseph Evans' daughter. Your stepmother and I would like to meet her as well. Bring her along next week."
  • He paused, then added mockingly: "If you think she's presentable, that is." Without giving Joshua Walker a chance to cause trouble, he hung up the phone decisively.
  • Bringing Amanda Moore to meet his father and stepmother?
  • Joshua Walker imagined the scene and could only come to one conclusion—a disaster scene.
  • In Daniel Martin's eyes, Amanda Moore seemed startled. Her long eyelashes trembled slightly, and a faint red mark appeared at the corner of her eye, involuntarily evoking a sense of pity.
  • Even though Amanda Moore had a standard pure and innocent appearance, being hit by her beauty, Daniel Martin was momentarily distracted, as if he had been pulled back to old times five or six years ago.
  • He supported himself with one hand against the wall, firmly trapping Amanda Moore against the wall side.
  • Amanda Moore, who had a strong sense of space since she was young, agilely shifted her body to the side, slipping out like a snake, and maintaining a normal distance from Daniel Martin, standing face to face with him.
  • Daniel Martin composed himself and joked half-seriously: "So cold to an old friend? I was really happy when I found out we would be working together. Aren't you even going to say hello to me?"
  • In fact, when Amanda Moore was fifteen or sixteen, she was indifferent to everyone, mostly buried in her studies. Only when she was with him did she show a unique enthusiasm that she didn't display to others.
  • Back then, he was young and reckless, with a superior family background and outstanding looks, which destined him to be noncommittal. Amanda Moore's personality was too bland and boring for him. If it weren't for a bet he made with someone, he and Amanda Moore wouldn't have had any interaction at all.
  • To him at that time, Amanda Moore was like a dessert to him after a big meal, something to lighten up his palate. Missing her wouldn't have been too much of a loss. But time flew by, and when he saw her again after five or six years, when his memories of her had faded, he felt a new sense of novelty.
  • Amanda Moore disliked getting entangled in meaningless issues and said straightforwardly: "Good afternoon."
  • Daniel Martin sighed and touched his forehead: "You really are..."
  • He smiled helplessly: "Originally, three colleges offered me management positions, and I chose this one, thinking I could meet an old friend. Now it seems I was being sentimental for no reason."
  • In fact, he had already decided to work at Horizon Institute before he knew Amanda Moore was also employed there. His appearance was of a very upright and handsome type, a standard gentleman suited, different from Joshua Walker's flamboyant and enchanting looks. Every word he said was convincing.
  • Normally, when people heard that he had made such a significant choice for them, they would be moved and inevitably start to daydream, stepping into the ambiguous net he had woven, becoming confused and infatuated.
  • Amanda Moore, however, was clearly not an ordinary person. She nodded: "A bit."
  • "Alright," Daniel Martin choked a little, then, as if chatting with an old friend, he continued: "Don't you have any thoughts about me becoming your superior, the associate head of the biology department?"
  • Actually, he had tried to access Amanda Moore's files yesterday but only obtained the most basic information, which made her seem like just an ordinary researcher. But when he tried to delve deeper into her file, he was surprisingly told that he didn't have sufficient authority, which he found quite interesting.
  • Amanda Moore honestly replied: "I do."
  • According to the extent of Amanda Moore's concern for him back then, upon hearing that he had considered working at Horizon Institute because of her, she would have been moved, or at least a bit surprised.
  • Daniel Martin's gaze softened: "Oh?"
  • Amanda Moore looked him up and down a few times, then said seriously: "I'm quite annoyed. I want to be the associate head too."
  • Daniel Martin: "..."
  • Amanda Moore: "Ha-ha, just kidding. How could I be the associate head? I'm so capable, I should definitely be the head."
  • Daniel Martin: "..."
  • When Amanda Moore was fifteen or sixteen, her quirky personality didn't make her confrontational in conversations.
  • She seemed to speak casually, but in fact, she skillfully changed the topic whenever he tried to get closer, trying her best to appear completely indifferent to him, which seemed a bit deliberate.
  • The novelty turned into a faint desire to conquer. He paused and pondered before asking, "Do you... still care about what happened back then?"
  • He let out a soft sigh: "I was just eighteen, full of youthful vigor, which is why I made such a foolish bet. I didn't expect to hurt you..."
  • His voice was gentle, and he didn't shirk responsibility, appearing sincerely apologetic: "I'm sorry, it was just a joke, not what I truly felt."
  • As a typical heir to a wealthy family, he was already adept at such tactics, delivering them with heartfelt sincerity and complete confidence to touch people's hearts.
  • Only those who didn't care would be so nonchalant. After so many years, if she still harbored resentment over that bet, it meant she hadn't let it go at all.
  • Amanda Moore was about to speak when someone knocked lightly on the door. Rachel poked her head in: "Um... Director Martin, Doctor Moore, may I come in?"
  • Daniel Martin was a person with a great sense of propriety. Seeing that there was someone else present, he smiled slightly at Rachel: "Of course."
  • He nodded slightly at Amanda Moore and stepped out of her office.
  • As soon as Daniel Martin left the office, his phone vibrated a few times. A private group chat with people from the same circle had exploded with a big piece of gossip.
  • Hill: [FK, unbelievable, Joshua Walker is actually dating, and it's with Joseph Evans' daughter.]
  • Mojito: [@Martin, hasn't your family been competing with the Walkers for the market? Joshua Walker has screwed you over several times, come out and gloat.]
  • Hill: [Wait a minute, I remember in school, the girl pursued Martin for a long time, liked him a lot. I thought she was so aloof, but who would have thought she would keep hanging around Martin? Martin said he was just playing with her, right? This is interesting.]
  • Mojito: [@Martin, so did you ever date her?]
  • These heirs of wealthy families, who appeared well-dressed and charming on the surface, were extremely excited when it came to salacious gossip in private.
  • Daniel Martin was slightly stunned. He typed the word "No" in the input box, then added it to "Not really" after some thought, and clicked send.
  • The people in the group didn't pay attention to his reply, as they were immersed in discussing the juicy news of Daniel Martin's rival getting together with Daniel Martin's 'ex-girlfriend'.
  • Daniel Martin didn't bother to explain. He read those messages a couple of times, his slender fingers tapping his chin thoughtfully.
