Chapter 479 What a Master

  • Feng Cheng and the second son of the Fengs saw Maxwell York walking over and nearly pissed themselves. With a thud, both of them dropped to their knees. “Master, master, we—we had no choice...” Maxwell let out a cold chuckle and drove two sharp kicks straight into them. ... Moments later, Maxwell had already walked out of the Zen courtyard. Beside him, Zhou Ningning bounced along, thrilled. “Max, you’re insane!” Zhou Ningning blurted, buzzing with excitement. “Five billion—just like that, easy money! Is making money really that simple?” Her eyes sparkled like stars. Just now, after Maxwell put Feng Cheng and the second son in their place, he told the Fengs to cough up five billion to buy their lives back. Feng Cheng wouldn’t dare refuse. Five billion— even for the Fengs—took scraping together every bit of liquid cash they had. Their fortune would shrink by half in one blow. But there was no choice. Life mattered more. With a pained face, Feng Cheng transferred five billion to Maxwell. “Money’s just numbers. I don’t care much about it,” Maxwell said with a faint smile. Zhou Ningning snorted and rolled her eyes. “Easy for you to say. You’re the guy sitting on five billion now. Of course you don’t care.” Maxwell couldn’t help laughing. For him, saying a word could move hundreds of billions. He didn’t bother to explain. They were about to step out of the temple when a figure suddenly appeared in front of them. Both paused. It was Wufan, dressed in a red robe. Before Maxwell could speak, Wufan dropped to his knees. “Master!” Wufan shouted, looking up at Maxwell with sincere eyes. Zhou Ningning was dumbstruck, and Maxwell’s mouth twitched. Master? “I’m not your master,” Maxwell frowned. “No. From now on, you are my master!” “Master, please take me as your disciple!” Wufan didn’t even call himself a monk anymore. He knelt before Maxwell and knocked his head to the ground, hard. Maxwell was speechless. The guy had just taken a beating, and now he was begging to become his disciple? Off to the side, Zhou Ningning pressed her lips together, trying not to laugh. “Max, even a monk wants to be your disciple,” she teased. “Don’t be ridiculous. I’m not with the faith,” Maxwell said, helpless. Wufan lifted his head again, this time looking at Zhou Ningning. “Mistress, you must be Mistress!” “Mistress, please let Master accept me!” “I truly want to become his disciple!” he pleaded, face full of longing. Zhou Ningning froze at being called “Mistress,” and her cheeks flushed in a snap. Wufan was baffled. He was a monk—how would he know the situation? He’d just called her “Mistress” a couple of times. Why’d she blush? Maxwell, exasperated, said directly, “I don’t take disciples. You should stay here in the temple and be a head monk.” With that, he walked around Wufan and led Zhou Ningning straight out of the temple. But behind them, Maxwell could feel Wufan tagging along. Maxwell rubbed his temples. This was getting ridiculous. Was he really going to take a disciple? Forget it. If the guy wanted to follow, let him. He’d find a way to send him off later. Ignoring Wufan, Maxwell stepped outside the temple—only to see a squad of uniformed cops rushing to the gate, quickly surrounding the three of them. With so many officers closing in, Zhou Ningning jumped in fright, and Maxwell’s brows drew tight. A leading officer stepped out, face like ice, flashing his badge. “You’re suspected of intentional assault. Come with us.” Maxwell arched a brow. Intentional assault—did the Fengs call this in? As he wondered, a few more figures stepped out from behind. At their head was Ye Yunjing, still bandaged up. Maxwell got it at once. The Ye family couldn’t touch him, so they went and called the cops. “Maxwell York, let’s see where you run this time,” Ye Yunjing sneered. Before Maxwell could say a word, Wufan strode in front of him. “Master, leave them to me!” The words were barely out before he charged. The officers blinked—and in a flash, several of them were sent flying. “You bastard! Attacking an officer?!” the lead cop’s face changed on the spot.
