• ​The next morning, I spend a few minutes standing in front of the bathroom mirror and carefully check my reflection under the bright vanity lights. The angry crimson discoloration stretching across my neck has thankfully faded by more than half overnight, leaving behind a dull, faint pink mark that looks far less dramatic than it did yesterday afternoon.
• The medical gel from the hospital specialist is clearly doing its job. I pull my dark hair up into a high, secure bun, pinning the stray strands away from my face, and choose an off-the-shoulder knitted cream top paired with high-waisted beige wide-leg pants.
