Chapter 24

  • Rosalina's POV
  • After paying for the property deed in full the day before, I am left with exactly 180 thousand across all my bank accounts. It is a terrifyingly small number when laid bare against the cold reality of my new responsibilities. 180 thousand—barely enough to cover Grandma's high-end care facility for the next three and a half months. It means I have precisely 105 days to build a legal fortress out of my career, or find another way to generate massive capital before her medical invoice arrives.

But she had never been in great health and fiercely preferred peace and quiet, while Regina, with her desperate aspirations of high society grandeur, insisted on practicing her operatic vocal warm-ups every single morning without fail. The final straw came during a winter where, due to a servant’s blatant negligence, Grandma had been administered the wrong medication. The resulting cardiac scare had nearly taken her from me. After that brush with death, the old woman stubbornly insisted on packing her bags and moving into a nursing home herself, refusing to stay in a house that felt more like a waiting room for her demise.
