Chapter 6

  • “So finally I have found out the reason why you decided to marry me? You should have just told me from the very beginning.”
  • “Yes, now you know and I want you to act as areal wife. Please don’t disappoint me. I think you know what I am talking about.”
  • She just stared at him in a daze, never at any moment did it cross her mind that the man will make such a request to her. She can’t even stand being close to him? Is she going to act as if she was in love with him?
  • “Don’t worry we still have five days and you will soon get used to me. Get that silly look out of your face.”
  • In the morning she woke up and dressed in a grey official skirt and pink blouse. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail. She needed to dress well in order to create a good first impression. After looking at the mirror and being satisfied by her look, she wore her black stilettoes and headed to the kitchen for her breakfast.
  • Unfortunately Richard was still in the dining table taking his breakfast. Yesterday night she didn’t even hear at what time he came to sleep.
  • However she was still grateful that he had not made any advances on her. Just the mere look at him sent electricity through her body. The man was painstakingly handsome but it was such a pity that they were just married for other purposes. Why was she even allowing her feelings to get better of her? He will never notice a plain woman like her, not even in her dreams.
  • Richard noticed her blushing all red like a tomato and called her to sit beside him. He loved the way she was blushing all over, but still he can’t allow himself to become attached to her because she was only interested in his money.
  • “Come and join me for breakfast”
  • “Okay”
  • He did nothing but to stare at her while eating and due to the nervousness she was feeling, she suddenly stood up to leave.
  • “You have to finish your breakfast. Sit down” he commanded
  • “But I am already full”
  • “Just eat the breakfast, you have barely eaten anything on your plate. You know it is bad manners to leave food on the plate or didn’t your mother teach you that?”
  • Emily had no option but to eat everything because she realized that this was not something that was up to her. Anyway she didn’t even know why she was suddenly nervous when all her life she had been yearning for the food that she now has access to.
  • “Good .Can I give you a lift to work?”
  • “No I prefer to take the bus. I wouldn’t want to disrupt your schedule.”
  • As much as he was surprised at her rejection, he was still pleased by her answer. If it were other women they could have jumped in to the offer without second thoughts. The woman was certainly unique.
  • When Emily reached her new office all the management staff were in a meeting including the director. It was Richard’s fault for making her come to work late on the first day. Now she will have no any other option but to apologize in front of the senior employees, what a shame, she should be introducing herself instead of all this nonsense.
  • However being her first day the other staff on the meeting welcomed her and briefed her about the day’s agenda and she sighed a relief.
  • It was about an upcoming tender that was very competitive and they were still undecided whether to take part or just leave it.
  • The tender was to design an amusement park that was to be built in the city. Several big names were going to participate and she was told that Davis Corporation has also shown its interest.
  • “We are not a match to Davis. We should just leave this project to pass and focus on the city view project. This was something that we had already started and we will only take just a few months to conclude. However in the case of the new tender , it is very competitive and I don’t think we will have any chance “The project manager said
  • “I think we should participate in this tender. It will be beneficial for us as a company to improve our image and grow the company portfolio. I am very sure that we have a very high chance of getting it, we just need to plan and focus well” Emily said
  • The project manager shot her a disgusted look for trying to defy his statement in front of the boss. He was wondering what the little girl who had just joined them thought she was. This kinds of projects needed experienced personnel and right now as they were talking he didn’t think that any one of them was capable of delivering.
  • “Can you be able to handle the designs” Ben asked
  • “Off course, just give me the specification and you will have a draft on your table. I am happy because I have done something similar before and this will just be a piece of cake for me and I assure you sir that you have nothing to worry because we will win this tender. When is the deadline?”
  • “Unfortunately we heard about it too late and we really don’t have time to waste, the deadline will be in two days’ time.” Ben said with a worried face but seeing the confident that was evidently coming from the woman, he immediately cheered up.
  • It was a pity that Emily joined and had to make the hardest decision that the entire male employees in the company feared. He was very pleased for having trusted her with the job. All he hoped for is that she will not disappoint them.
  • The project manager tried as much as he can to persuade her to stop that idea of looking like a hero but she could not hear any of that. She also had a personal motive for having to participate in the tender process. They will never understand her even if they wanted to know.
  • She wanted to trample on those who looked down upon her and show them that she will be at the top no matter what. She knew very well that Nina wouldn’t miss this opportunity and she wanted to know how she was going to make a design without her help.
  • All the designs that Nina had ever presented in every important occasion was always her creation.
  • For the next two days Emily was so consumed by her design that she even forgot that she was living with someone else in the house. She would wake up early in the morning and get busy on her laptop and later at the night she wouldn’t sleep until she was sure that she had made some progress. She had to work extra hard since this was something that she was creating within a short notice.
  • “Emily what it is that you are working on that is even more important than your sleep? Yesterday you wouldn’t leave your laptop and today you are doing the same thing. It is that Ben had given you an assignment that requires your extra time. If that is the case you still need some sleep okay.” Richard asked.
