  • I checked my watch for the third time in ten minutes. Eight-thirty. Millicent was still at her desk, exactly where I wanted her. This had become our routine over the past week, and I wasn't even trying to pretend it was all about work anymore. Sure, I could have reviewed these acquisition reports on my own, and yeah, the Henderson merger documents could definitely wait until Monday. But the thought of her leaving, going back to that tiny studio apartment where I couldn't watch over her, made my wolf pace restlessly inside me.
  • Through my office door, I had a perfect view of her. She was highlighting something in the contract, tucking that stubborn strand of blonde hair behind her ear the way she always did when she concentrated. Then she bit her lower lip, trying to work through some complicated clause, and I had to grip my pen harder to keep from storming out there and showing her exactly what that lip-biting did to me.
