Chapter 2 Just Like That, Getting Married?

  • "I couldn't help but overhear your phone call," he gestured to the phone still in my grasp. "You must be in a hurry to get married."
  • The confirmation that this Adonis had witnessed my humiliating moment was enough to make my cheeks flame an unflattering shade of red.
  • Before I could stutter out a reply, the unfamiliar werewolf continued, speaking calmly like we were discussing a business deal rather than a major life event. "Coincidentally, I am just like you. How about we come to a mutually beneficial agreement?"
  • It was only then that realisation struck me.
  • The unfamiliar werewolf in front of me actually wanted to marry me. Me, a virtual stranger.
  • I had to resist pinching myself. There was no way this wasn't s dream.
  • "Sir," the title came out hesitant, unsure. "We don't know each other well enough to... this whole thing is too rushed."
  • "The human you were supposed to marry, you didn't know them either. Wouldn't it be more convenient to marry a werewolf?" He replied with an air of indifference, even though his stare was direct.
  • I was at a loss for words.
  • "What, am I disqualified of my disability? Not good enough for you, huh?" He looked at me and asked.
  • "Of course not!" I blurted out all the while avoiding his piercing gaze.
  • When I finally braved a glance at him, it was to find him smirking at me.
  • "Miss." The strange werewolf folded his hands and placed them neatly on his lap before looking up at me, "I believe you desperately need this arrangement. This is Torrent City. Werewolves without a pack here over the age of 25 will be expelled. Where will you go, if you get banished?"
  • I stared at him for a long, uncomfortable time before I finally stuttered out a sentence, "Are you... a native of Torrent City?"
  • The corner of the strange werewolf's lips curled slightly, "Yes."
  • I chose to study this enigma of a man closely.
  • Although he had a disability, he appeared much stronger than the various human males I had chatted with on dating sites.
  • His idea had merit: I didn't have to hide who I was from him. However, if my identity was discovered by humans here, I would be banished from the city!
  • All this time, what I had been seeking was to quickly marry a local and obtain proof of identity here.
  • Now that the opportunity was right in front of me, why was I hesitating?
  • In the end, it was a no-brainer. I really didn't any other choice. With a resigned sigh, I squared my shoulder and faced my future husband. lifting my head to look at my future husband. "Okay, I agree."
  • An hour later, I walked out of the city hall in with a marriage certificate in my hand, feeling as if I were floating in a dream-like haze.
  • I never expected I'd get married so suddenly, especially to a werewolf I had just met.
  • It wasn't until I looked at the marriage certificate that I learned my new husband's name was Aston Vaughn.
  • Austin Vaughn, I rolled the words around in my head, testing them. It embodied him: powerful, strong.
  • "Lora Blake?"
  • Aston studied the photo in the red book and slowly pronounced my name in his deep, husky voice that sent shivers down my spine.
  • As I was still in a daze, a large hand suddenly reached out to me, holding a black card between its fingertips.
  • "Miss Blake, I know girls usually look forward to weddings, rings, and all that, but I'm sorry, I don't have time for those things. If you like rings, you can choose one yourself." He shook the card at me when I made no move to collect it.
  • I looked up and met Aston's deep, obsidian-like eyes.
  • "No, thank you," I quickly waved my hand. "I don't care about those things."
  • I was past the age of chasing romance. More importantly, even though he was my husband in name, I didn't want to feel like I owed him anything.
  • "Although our union may not have the blessing of the moon goddess, a wedding ring is still necessary." Aston lightly stated and quickly grabbed my wrist, placing the card in my palm.
  • His skin against mine was like nothing I had ever felt in my life. The warmth of his hand seared through my brain, causing me to lose focus.
  • “Alright.” I slowly acquiesced.
  • It only made sense to accept his gesture, given the fact that we were now "newlyweds," and I didn't want to offend him over such a small matter.
  • "I have a meeting this afternoon, so I won't be able to see you off." Aston's tone remained indifferent.
  • "Okay." I never expected him to treat me like a wife, so I didn't feel disappointed.
  • "Oh, about my home address", he added as an afterthought. "I'll send it to you later. Whenever you're ready, you can move in."
  • We had already exchanged phone numbers when we got their marriage certificate.
  • "There's no rush for that." I nervously replied.
  • Although married couples were supposed to live together, I wasn't ready to live under the same roof as a strange werewolf.
  • With the way his eyes gleamed, I knew he didn't know how to take no for an answer.
  • I was in so much trouble.
  • ```
