Chapter 5 Interview

  • Lola
  • The sunlight outside the window casted shadows on the man's angular face in the wheelchair, outlining his perfect features, with a cold light shining in his dark eyes as always.
  • It was Aston.
  • The CEO of Nova Group, Aston Vaughn?!
  • I felt completely dumbfounded, unable to react in time, and then I saw Aston give us a faint smile, "Ethos Magazine, right? Please, have a seat."
  • "Lora, what are you staring at?"
  • It wasn't until Nancy's harsh whisper hit my eardrums and reminded me that we weren't alone. Still flustered, I absently sat down on the sofa with Nancy and the others.
  • Aston slowly wheeled his wheelchair towards us, and Nancy asked excitedly, "Mr. Vaughn, can we begin?"
  • "Please." Aston remained indifferent, not even casting a glance my way from start to finish, as if we didn't know each other at all.
  • With the cold air emanating from him, I had a hard time believing he was the same man i had married a couple hours again. Then again, the werewolf aura emanating off of him in waves couldn't be wrong.
  • "Um... Mr. Vaughn, you've proven to be quite the mystery, and we don't even know your name." Nancy blushed as she nervously asked, "Would you mind telling us your name?"
  • "Aston." The two elegant syllables were cleanly uttered from the his full lips, shattering any last trace of doubt I had that this was all some sort of fever dream.
  • "Aston, it's really a nice name." Jess smiled with a hint of flattery seeping into her tone, "Next, we would like to ask you a few questions."
  • The room fell awkwardly quiet, and a sudden pain in my arm brought me back to reality.
  • Jess had prodded me with the tip of her pen.
  • I was supposed to be asking the questions, with Nancy and Jess taking notes.
  • Under Jess's reproachful gaze, I quickly calmed my flustered heart, put on a professional smile, and began to ask, "Mr. Vaughn, if I may ask, are you from Torrent City?"
  • "Sort of." Unlike my flustering, Aston remained calm from start to finish, "I was born in Torrent City, but I moved to Nightshade City when I was very young."
  • I had heard my mother mention Nightshade City before, a city ruled by the vast Shadow Pack, not open to humans.
  • I suddenly felt a bit ridiculous. The man sitting across from me was clearly my newlywed husband, yet I didn't know a single thing about him.
  • I quickly pushed away my random thoughts and continued to ask the prepared questions one by one.
  • The interview went smoothly. Although Aston was cold, he was also cooperative, dispelling the image of being unapproachable as rumored before.
  • I gradually got into interviewing mode, temporarily forgetting that the man in front of me was actually my newlywed husband. But when my gaze fell on the next question, I almost choked, and once again, the office was enveloped in silence.
  • "Lora, what's wrong?" This time, it was a sharp-eyed Nancy who nudged me. I quickly came to my senses and apologized with a smile.
  • "Sorry, Mr. Vaughn, this question is a bit personal, but I believe many female readers would be interested." I tried to suppress the strange palpitations pulsing through my heart and reluctantly blurted out, "Are you single?"
  • As the question left my mouth, I wished I could bite off my tongue.
  • Wasn't this question ridiculous? I knew Aston's relationship status better than anyone!
  • But this question was planned in advance, and I nervously looked at Aston. I couldn't tell if it was my imagination but he seemed amused, like he was enjoying watching me squirm.
  • However, this smile was fleeting, so quick that I was convinced I had only imagined it.
  • "Well, this question..." Aston spoke slowly and seemed to measure his words, "Miss Reporter, why don't you take a guess?"
  • In that moment, my heart skipped a beat.
  • Guess?
  • Guess, my foot!
  • Although I was still reeling from his revelation, I still had to force a smile and say, "I guess... I guess you must be married, right?"
  • Aston calmly replied, "Yes, I've beenmarried just these past few days."
  • But when he mentioned "these past few days," deliberately elongating his tone, he seemed to glance over at me with a hint of heat, causing my heart to inexplicably race.
  • Before I could respond, Nancy exclaimed, "Oh!
  • She seemed to regret her outburst but wasn't able to resist asking nosily, "Mr. Vaughn, you're already married? I can't help but feel heartbroken for the female readers! I wonder what kind of person your wife is? Is she from a prominent family?"
  • "Nancy!" I chided her. This was not a question in our list, and it was too personal, almost impolite.
  • Fortunately, Aston didn't take offense. Instead, he gave us a faint smile and didn't answer Nancy's question.
  • "Alright, we've asked enough about Mr. Vaughn's personal life. Let's move on to some work-related questions." I didn't want to dwell too much on the topic of marriage, so I quickly shifted the focus of the interview.
  • After all, I knew who his lucky bride was.
