Chapter 6 Key

  • The next few questions were all quite generic, and the interview finally ended on a safe note.
  • "I'm glad to have been interviewed by your magazine this time." As we said our goodbyes, Aston politely shook our hands, but when he shook mine, he seemed to linger for a second.
  • His gaze fell on the ring on my finger, his lips curling slightly as he softly said, "A very beautiful ring."
  • Upon hearing Aston's praise, I felt my cheeks flush instantly and quickly withdrew my hand.
  • It wasn't until we walked out of Aston's office that my tense nerves finally relaxed.
  • Nancy was still beside herself, exclaiming dramatically, "Oh my god, I shook hands with the CEO of Nova Group! I'm not washing my hands for the rest of the week."
  • I regarded her with a mix of amusement and exasperation, about to scold her for being silly, when Aston's secretary suddenly approached us with a few beautifully wrapped boxes in hand.
  • "Here you go! These are small gifts prepared by our CEO. Please, accept them."
  • Taking the exquisitely packaged box, Nancy excitedly declared,"Oh my goodness, Mr. Vaughn is so considerate!"
  • She immediately tore into the box and found a Chanel scarf inside.
  • "Wow, he really is generous!" Nancy was giddy as she admired the scarf. "Each of us has a different color, right?"
  • She didn't wait for a reply before turning to me.
  • "Lora, let me see what color yours is."
  • I didn't want to open it at first, but under Nancy's persistent persuasion, I reluctantly unwrapped the gift.
  • As soon as I saw what was inside, however, I quickly hid the box behind my back, "It's the same color as yours! um... my stomach hurts, I need to use the restroom."
  • With that, I ignored their shocked expressions and hurried to the restroom.
  • Sitting on the toilet in one of the stalls, I carefully opened the exquisite gift box again.
  • Unlike Nancy's designer scarf, inside my small box was a set of keys.
  • Before I could fully process my shock, a text message came in.
  • It was from Aston, with an address that was the most expensive werewolf district in Torrent City, a place of immeasurable value.
  • Glancing at the address and the keys in my hand, I immediately understood what it all meant: Aston wanted me to move in.
  • Of course, his idea was completely valid. we were now a legitimate couple and should be living together.
  • There's nothing wrong with living with my stranger of a husband. Nothing at all.
  • After exiting the restroom, I returned to the magazine office with Nancy and the others.
  • With the permission of the director, we showed off Aston's photo, and instantly, the women in the entire magazine office were all awestruck.
  • "Wow! The CEO of Nova Group is so handsome!"
  • "Yeah, his visuals are simply out of this world! I can't even stare at him for too long!"
  • "Hey, but isn't Mr. Vaughn sitting in a strange chair? Is that a wheelchair?"
  • A few male colleagues sarcastically remarked, "So what if he's rich and good-looking? Don't you know that eighty percent of men in wheelchairs are also useless in the bedroom?"
  • "That's right, didn't you say he just got married? I bet his new wife is going to be so unsatisfied!."
  • I was originally just drinking water and not participating in the conversation, but when I heard this, I almost choked on my water. These humans really talk too much...
  • They shot me questioning glances and in response, I smiled and blended right back into the background.
  • Over the weekend, I took some time to visit my mother in the hospital. Due to the shock of my father's death and the blow of being forced to become an Omega, my mother had developed serious health issues and required specific medication to sustain her life.
  • She wasn't getting any better and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't push the worry aside.
  • When I returned to my apartment, I started packing my bags, preparing to move to Aston's house.
  • I was afraid that if I delayed any longer, he might misunderstand my hesitance.
  • Standing at the entrance of the villa, I looked around at the lush trees and gardens surrounding it. The peaceful and private atmosphere was truly serene.
  • The interior of the house exuded a luxurious vibe, with huge crystal chandeliers as the centerpiece, its light blinding.
  • There were not many servants in the villa, only a werewolf couple named Tony and Helen Clayton.
  • Tony helped me move my things into the master bedroom on the second floor. The space was decorated in a more minimalist style, and when I opened the closet, I saw that one side was filled with men's shirts, while the other side was empty.
  • I immediately realized that I would be sharing a room with Aston.
  • But there was nothing wrong with that, I tried to convince myself. After all, we were already legally married. I put my things in and filled up the empty half of the closet.
  • After dinner that night–I had dined alone, I took a shower and was about to dry off when I suddenly realized that I had forgotten to bring a towel.
  • Thinking that Aston hadn't returned yet, I cautiously ran into the master bedroom. Just as I reached the closet, I heard a "click" sound from behind me.
  • I was startled, and when I turned around, I saw Aston slowly wheeling into the room.
  • My mind went blank, and when I came to my senses, I immediately screamed and quickly ran towards the bathroom, forgetting that the floor had already been made wet by me. As I ran, my feet slipped and with a blood-curdling shriek, I fell.
