Chapter 8
- Chapter 8
- Orion stormed into the dining room and charged towards Bryan. He glared at Ciara who was sitting close to Bryan and she stiffened before changing her seat.
- "What are you doing here?"
- Bryan didn't respond right away but took his time, devouring the piece of steak in his mouth and then washing it down with the wine that the servants had served them. "It's not nice to bully people Orion." He finally replied, his gaze fixed on Ciara and Orion clenched his jaw.
- What right did he have to tell him what to do?
- Ciara avoided their eyes and picked at her food. Orion could feel her nerves wavering all over the place and he snorted in disgust.
- "Ciara, come back to your seat and ignore him," Bryan said, ignoring Orion who was now glaring at him.
- Ciara eyed Orion first and then shook her head, refusing Bryan's request. Orion smirked, satisfied with her decision and turned to his brother.
- Bryan sighed and looked up at him, "It's the family month." he shrugged after saying that and Orion narrowed his eyes.
- "But you're not family." He spat, seething at Bryan's audacity. Now he wanted to play family?
- Bryan didn't respond and it took all of Orion's strength not to punch him in the face. There was nowhere he would sit there and eat with them. Turning to one of the servants standing in the corner, he barked, "Bring my food to my room."
- He spared Bryan one last dark look before storming out, slamming the door behind him. Ciara jumped in her seat and Bryan felt for her.
- Orion stomped all the way to his office seething as he replayed how Bryan had stood up for Ciara. What right did he have to protect her from him? She was his mate!
- Why did it seem like Bryan was interested in Ciara all of a sudden? What was he up to?
- Orion didn't care what Bryan was up to, he just didn't want him in his pack or anywhere near him. He couldn't just show up and play family because he wasn't family then and he wouldn't be family now.
- He walked into his office and slammed the door, frowning as he wondered why his door had been left open. He got his answer when he walked into the room and saw his mother sitting on his chair, the Alpha's chair.
- She was the only one who could get away with that because she was his mother. Sophie would have gotten away with it but she wasn't there. He pushed back thoughts of her as he walked up to his table.
- "What are you doing in my office?"
- She looked up, glaring at him as she closed the file she had been looking at.
- "Until you are officially married to your bride, I am still the Luna of this pack and I can go wherever I want."
- Orion muttered under his breath as he flopped into one of the chairs across from her. She wasn't wrong though, she was still the Luna.
- "Mother, "He greeted, trying to get a grip on his emotions that were spiralling out of control.
- "Bryan is your brother even though you wish he wasn't," she said and he clenched his fists.
- "That man is no brother of mine. He is nothing to me!" So much for trying to get a grip on his emotions.
- His mother sighed and rose to her feet. She walked across the table and reached hs side, placing her arm on his shoulder. "I know but he is your father's son."
- "Bastard," he corrected, remembering how much his mother had suffered because of his father's unfaithfulness. At least his other mistresses had been wise enough not to get pregnant for him.
- "He will be here for family month so I suggest you try to get along with him.
- Not for him but for your position as the Alpha."Orion was still seething but he listened to her. She was making a valid point.
- "Bryan is the Alpha of the second strongest pack in our community. He could easily become a threat if you let him affect you this much." He relaxed at her words, acknowledging the truth in them. She was right, Bryan had power now and his pack could be in danger if Bryan decided to attack with the help of other packs.
- Finding out that Bryan had somehow become the Alpha of the Blue Moon pack had come as a shock to him. He was still trying to come to terms with it.
- Even though several packs in their community were loyal to his pack, some were still jealous and wanted to bring them down. If Bryan got their support, the Silver Moon pack were going to have problems.
- He nodded and rose to his feet. Walking towards his seat, he took his place on the chair. He closed his eyes and fought for control over his emotions.
- "How are the wedding preparations coming along? You know you cannot fully claim the title of Alpha unless you're married right?"
- Orion didn't want to talk about wedding preparations with any woman that wasn't Sophie. He would do anything to avoid being married to Ciara but what other choice did he have when Sophia, the woman he wanted was nowhere to be found?
- The thought of having anything to do with Ciara sent shivers of disgust all over his body but he couldn't deny the attraction he felt for her because of the mate bond. If only he could reject her and send her on her way but he couldn't. He had to have a Luna to fully be recognized as the true Alpha of the Silver Moon pack.
- The coronation ceremony had been more of a formality and a way of announcing his father's retirement and his future bride. He didn't have the power to make decisions concerning the pack without his father's approval just yet.
- "I need time," he confessed and his mother nodded.
- Her face, however, became serious and he stiffened at the words that came out of her mouth next. "But don't take too long or else, Bryan could challenge you for the throne."
- Over his dead body.
- There was no way he would let that filth take over his pack. It was his inheritance and his birthright.
- "Think about it," His mother said as she walked out of the office, leaving Orion to his thoughts.
- He had thought of buying himself some time but with the way things were going, he would have to get married as soon as possible. Scrubbing a hand over his face, he sighed. His eyes fell on a picture frame sitting on the table.
- It was a picture of Sophie, the only one he had of her that was recent.
- "Where are you, Sophie?"
