Chapter 9 What Are You Doing Here

  • “Is that so? Let's wait and see then,” Christopher said with a scoff.
  • “D*mn it. You're such an idiot. I'm done talking to you.”
  • Fabio turned around to look at Frank and fumed, “Uncle Frank, unless you plan on farming for the rest of your life, hurry up and kick him out of the Murray family. Mr. Cordrington is still waiting for Julianna. Only Julianna would treasure a retired soldier like him.”
  • “You have no right to comment on my business. Get lost!” Julianna snapped.
  • “All right, all right! If you like farming, then suit yourself. But move your stuff out by this afternoon. You have no business here anymore.” With that, Fabio stormed away.
  • Not long after Fabio left, Frank felt as if his tears were about to fall. After all, he could earn at least a few millions worth of profits from working with Santos Corporation every year.
  • The moment he saw Christopher, Frank was infuriated and yelled, “Christopher, are you crazy? Why did you accept it? Since when were you allowed to have a say in this household?”
  • “Dad, there's no use in you saying this now. Uncle Fabian has the deeds and the ownership of the land. There's no doubt that we will lose even if we bring this to court. Back then when Uncle Fabian gave you the factory, why didn't you ask for the deeds as well? Didn't you know that these are the most basic assets?” Julianna questioned in a low voice as she glared at her father.
  • “I... Back then, I didn't expect this either. I didn't know that Fabian would be this ruthless!”
  • Frank's voice immediately became softer. Back then, he tried to ask Fabian about this. However, he was frightened after the latter cleared his throat and didn't dare to ask about it anymore.
  • Cindy hesitated for a moment before chiming in, “Then what do we do now? Why don't you divorce Christopher? Although Jared is a bit of a womanizer, it's not a big deal for sons from wealthy families like him to be a playboy. He just has to restrain himself after marriage.”
  • “Mom, aren't you just forcing me into a fire pit? Even if I die, I will never marry scum like him.”
  • Julianna's eyes suddenly reddened before tears welled up in them.
  • A tinge of heartache welled up inside Christopher. It is rather unfortunate for Julianna to have such... wonderful parents.
  • He let out a light cough and added in a low voice, “Things haven't reached such a serious stage. We signed this contract with Santos Corporation. I can just pay Mr. Santos a visit sometime later and get him to reject working with Uncle Fabian.”
  • “Yes. That's right. Since we know Mr. Santos, who knows if there might be a turn of events,” Frank hurriedly chimed in.
  • “Exactly. I can buy some gifts with Christopher and visit Mr. Santos to try and convince him,” Julianna added, unable to hold back her excitement.
  • “I think you should save yourself the trouble. Who do you think you are? So what if you know Mr. Santos? Mr. Santos is a businessman. The reason why he worked with us was for the factory. Now that Fabian, that cunning fox, has already gotten his hands on the factory, why would Mr. Santos refuse to work with him just because of a word from you?” Cindy asked huffily.
  • Cindy's words instantly killed Frank and Julianna's enthusiasm. Frank's face fell, and Julianna glanced at Christopher before saying, “Mom, let's just give it a try.”
  • “You're not giving up, are you? Very well. Christopher, don't you have his number? Give him a call then!” Cindy immediately ordered Christopher. At this, Christopher heaved a sigh. Initially, he planned on making the call alone and discussing things by himself. After all, it would be easy to expose his identity if he made the call publicly.
  • However, Cindy was now forcing him to make the call in front of them. Christopher then dialed Truman's number. In the end, he reached Truman's voicemail. Cindy couldn't help but laugh at this. “See that? What was that nonsense about him being the father of your classmate? It's no use. Who do you think you are? Julianna, let's go home.”
  • With that, Cindy dragged Julianna back home. Julianna originally planned on following Christopher to Santos Corporation to try her luck, but now, there didn't seem to be any hope.
  • “You can settle this mess yourself.”
  • Frank also walked out of the office in a huff, leaving Christopher alone. Christopher then took out the contract for the abandoned piece of land in the eastern countryside that Fabio had brought over. Back then, Reginald bought that piece of land to grow some herbs. Christopher remembered him mentioning it before.
  • Switching on his computer, he searched for the geographical location of this piece of land.
  • After a moment, Christopher walked out of his office and headed to the bus stop by the entrance of the building. He then boarded a bus and headed for the eastern countryside.
  • Upon getting off the bus, he instantly saw the abandoned land in the countryside. For as long as he could remember, he had always wanted to study medicine. Over the past five years in Draco Battalion, his medical skills hadn't turned rusty in the slightest. After all, they had been living on the edge and battling the most ruthless enemies. The reason why he could reach his current status in the military world was in no small part due to his superior medical skills.
  • He strode over quickly. The land was surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, but it was in a rather remote location. However, if he could develop the area and build mansions on it, they would be considered top-quality mansions. Besides, with Hubbard Group's influence, he could develop the surrounding lands and turn the area into a new business district.
  • Eventually, he reached the Murrays' piece of land, grabbed a handful of dirt, and sniffed it. After a moment, he rejoiced internally. What a marvelous herb field! It's almost on par with the field that we have. I can't believe it was left to waste for so many years. What a shame! But it's good that it was deserted. The soil here must be extremely fertile. Besides, the pond here can also be used to irrigate the herb field. It's really killing two birds with one stone. Fabio sure is generous to gift me such a precious plot of land.
  • Christopher couldn't help but let out a hearty laugh.
  • Over the years that he had been carrying out his missions, he had discovered plenty of herb fields, but none were as good as this.
  • Christopher immediately became excited and started looking around to see if there were other herb fields. He knew that every plot of herb field was extremely valuable.
  • It was only after the sun had set that Christopher finally pulled out his phone and called Dennis. Dennis' voice soon sounded on the other end. “What's the matter, Mr. Yaeger?”
  • “Mr. Hubbard, I have my eye on a plot of land in the eastern countryside. Would you be interested in investing in it?” Christopher asked calmly.
  • “Is it in Dragon Valley in the countryside?” Dennis asked eagerly.
  • “That's right. It is in Dragon Valley,” Christopher replied with a smile.
  • “All right. I'll buy that plot of land under Centurion Corporation in a while,” Dennis said contentedly.
  • “Oh. Mr. Hubbard, is Centurion Corporation your property as well?” Christopher was stunned. Although it had only been a few days since he returned to Jadeborough, he already knew of Centurion Corporation.
  • Although Centurion Corporation wasn't as influential as Hubbard Group, it was still one of the top five corporations in Jadeborough. Never would he expect that it was also under Dennis.
  • “Mr. Yaeger, what do you mean that they are my property? They are all your property. Three years ago, Ms. Yaeger instructed that if the Yaeger family couldn't make it, at least you would have some resources after you returned from the military. So I thought about it and decided to establish a real estate company. That plot of land in the eastern countryside is quite decent. If I didn't have to wait for you to develop the land, I would've built on it a long time ago. You really have good taste, Mr. Yaeger. I'll get them to invest two billion later on!” Dennis replied with a smile.
  • A warm feeling enveloped Christopher. Never would he expect that Lynette would even prepare a backup plan for him. As he thought about how she was supporting the family all alone in Yaleview, he felt a tinge of bitterness in his heart.
  • Don't worry, Lynette. I'm no longer the young pushover that I used to be. I will definitely go back to help you. I'll make them pay for what they did to Grandpa!
  • After five years of bloodshed and battles, Christopher had long since changed. It could be said that he was unbothered by those in the Yaeger family anymore.
  • “Mr. Hubbard, not only am I going to develop it, but I even found a few decent plots of herb fields. This has to be kept strictly confidential. I'm planning to build a resort in the location of the herb fields to use them for myself,” Christopher said in a low voice.
  • “What? T-There are herb fields? I understand. I know what I have to do!”
  • Dennis was taken aback. Although Christopher was quite young, he had been known as a child prodigy in the traditional medicine world and was extremely talented.
  • After Christopher spoke to Dennis for a while more, Dennis proceeded to make the arrangements. Just as Christopher was about to head back, his phone rang again. He looked at the phone number and saw that it was a call from Truman.
  • When Christopher picked up the phone, Truman's shaky voice sounded on the other end of the call. “Mr. Yaeger, the company was having a meeting just now and I switched off my phone, so I didn't receive your call. I'm so sorry about that, Mr. Yaeger!”
  • “You don't have to be so nervous, Mr. Santos. I just wanted to call you about a small matter,” Christopher replied calmly.
  • “Go ahead, Mr. Yaeger,” Truman said courteously.
  • “My father-in-law's factory was taken away by my uncle. When the Murrays call you for a collaboration with them, you should know what to do,” Christopher said in a low voice.
  • “What? How could such a thing happen? Don't worry, Mr. Yaeger. Santos Corporation will provide financial aid for you to open another factory,” Truman hurriedly replied.
  • “There won't be a need for that. I already have my own plans. Of course, I won't let your efforts go to waste this time as well,” Christopher said calmly.
  • “Mr. Yaeger, it is my honor to be of assistance to you.” At that moment, Truman was beyond excited that he was on Christopher's side. At this rate, there's a high chance that I'll be the chairman of Santos Corporation in the future!
  • When Christopher took a look at the time at the bus station, he knew that there wouldn't be any more buses. He instantly became embarrassed and said, “Well, could you come over to Dragon Valley in the countryside to fetch me? I don't think there are buses at this time anymore.”
  • “Of course. I'll head there this instant.” Truman rushed into the elevator excitedly, causing dozens of employees at Santos Corporation to think that something big had happened.
  • If they knew that Truman was rushing to be Christopher's driver, they would have gone insane.
  • After all, he was the general manager of the company!
  • By the time they reached the residential area Julianna's family lived in, it was already dark. Christopher didn't plan on making Truman stay there for long, as he had already exposed a major business opportunity by making Truman fetch him from Dragon Valley.
  • “All right. You can go back now,” Christopher told him calmly.
  • “Mr. Yaeger, feel free to call me anytime you need assistance,” Truman responded eagerly.
  • Christopher waved his hand at Truman and headed back home. The moment he entered, he saw the three members of the Murray family sitting in the living room dejectedly. When Frank noticed that Christopher had returned, he immediately reprimanded him, “So you still remembered to come home, huh? What happened to the stuff I made you move from the company?”
  • Cindy stared at him with a look of displeasure while Julianna remained silent.
  • “I went to look for Mr. Santos just now and asked him to reject working with Uncle Fabian. Mr. Santos agreed to it,” Christopher said in a low tone.
  • “What? Are you serious?” Frank subconsciously asked, unable to react for a moment.
  • “Christopher, you went to find Mr. Santos?” Julianna also asked eagerly.
  • Upon seeing how Frank and Julianna believed Christopher's words, Cindy instantly added furiously, “Santos Corporation is such a huge company. How could they decline to collaborate with them just like that? Back when they agreed to work with our family, they only did it on account of our factory being decent. Is it because you know that you've gotten us into trouble that you're now starting to come up with nonsense?”
  • After listening to Cindy's words, it was only then Frank snapped back to his senses and chided, “Exactly. You shouldn't have come back and should have just died on the stree—”
  • However, before Frank could finish his words, an angry voice sounded from outside. “Frank, you've got some guts now, don't you? How dare you play dirty with me! Are you tired of living?”
  • The moment he heard the voice, Frank's arrogance instantly diminished, and he became as timid as a mouse. “Fabian, w-what are you doing here?” he asked shakily.
  • Meanwhile, Fabian stormed toward them with Fabio behind him. Fabian roared, “Frank, I never expected that you would try to butter up Mr. Santos and even dare to call him to prevent him from working with me. Do you think that I'm dead?”
