Chapter 11 Fight Back

  • After Fabian left, Frank and Cindy couldn't help but let out a resigned sigh. It was already time for dinner, but none of them ate as they headed into their bedroom.
  • In just a day, Frank felt as though he had fallen from the peak into the abyss. Everything felt so hopeless at that moment.
  • On the other hand, Julianna seemed so much more relaxed. After all, her uncle had been too ruthless to her family. She held no hope for him anymore and wanted to cut ties with him as soon as possible to save the annoyance later.
  • Right at that moment, Christopher's stomach grumbled. Hearing that, the woman said, “The dishes are ready. I'll bring them out right now.”
  • She returned with their dinner a moment later. The man was indeed hungry since he had been inspecting Dragon Valley all day. Upon smelling the delicious aroma of the food, he began gobbling everything up.
  • Watching Christopher eat, Julianna couldn't help but feel a pang in her heart. She was feeling guilty for not giving him even a single call when he hadn't returned all day. In the end, he was still her husband, after all.
  • “All you know is to eat! How can you still feel like eating after what has happened? How can you be so nonchalant about everything?” Cindy shouted when she saw Christopher devouring his food the moment she came out of her bedroom.
  • “What are you talking about, Mom? Christopher only went to Mr. Santos for the sake of our family. I'm sure he hasn't eaten all day.” Julianna was rather upset at her mother's attitude. She didn't care in the past when Cindy scolded her husband because his absence for the past three years had caused her family a lot of trouble.
  • However, there had obviously been a lot of changes in their family since he returned a few days ago. Yet, her mother was still criticizing him.
  • “Did I beg him to do that?” Once she finished speaking, Cindy returned to her bedroom furiously.
  • “Mom means no harm. She's just been through some things,” Julianna quickly explained. At that, Christopher smiled and said nothing.
  • Of course, Cindy would have been shocked to the core if she ever found out how busy the people working at Centurion Corporation had been because of the call from him.
  • The higher-ups of Centurion Corporation were discussing the decision to buy Dragon Valley to develop real estate. Centurion Corporation was not only the leading real estate company of Jadeborough, but no other companies could compare to it even within the entire state of Jipsdale.
  • “From tonight onward, no one here is to leak this information before we announce it to the public. If anyone dares to do so, I don't mind sending you out,” a beautiful woman stated icily.
  • She was none other that the general manager of Centurion Corporation, Diane Reed. Centurion Corporation was not like other corporations. It had no board of directors, and Diane was the only one who knew the identity of the boss, who was Christopher.
  • Meanwhile, the person who had caused this uproar, Christopher, was currently stuffing his face with food. Seeing this, no one would ever think that there was a connection between him and the boss behind Centurion Corporation.
  • The next day, Centurion Corporation wasn't the only one busy. Fabian and his son were just as busy as they had already promised to arrange a family meeting the previous night. They wanted Frank to be punished under their family rules, chase Christopher out of their family, and force Julianna to marry Jared so they could have a marriage union with the Cordringtons.
  • During noon, at the Murray residence.
  • Christopher, Frank, and Julianna stepped into the courtyard of the residence. At the same time, Fabian was in the living room with Fabio standing behind him. Next to them were three elderlies, who were Fabian's uncles. Of course, the younger generation of Murrays was also standing in the living room.
  • Frank trembled at the sight of the people in the room. Even Julianna felt an immense amount of pressure from this. Nonetheless, Christopher looked relaxed and had no regard for the Murrays at all.
  • Fabian's face darkened upon their arrival. “The Murrays are all here now. I've invited my uncles here today to announce a few things regarding our family,” he stated icily.
  • “You're the head of the family now, Fabian. No matter what decision you make, I will always support you,” one of the elders smiled and said.
  • “All right. Since Uncle Francis has already said so, I won't be holding back anymore.” The man instantly shifted his gaze toward Frank and bellowed, “Frank, you have no respect for your elders and had openly talked back to the head of the family. Not only that, but you also ruined the Murrays' business collaboration with Santos Corporation. As the head of the Murrays, I am ordering you to kneel!”
  • The moment he finished speaking, Frank gave no other reaction and instantly fell to his knees, his body trembling violently.
  • “You did nothing wrong, so why are you on your knees, Dad?” While Julianna tried to get her father to get up, she said to her uncle, “Uncle Fabian, you're treating us unfairly because you hold a grudge against us. You were scared that we would demand our share of the inheritance from Grandpa, so you used a bankrupt factory to chase us away. However, you want it back now that we've signed a contract. You call yourself the head of the family by acting like that?”
  • “Watch how you're talking to your uncle, girl! Back then, you would have been beaten to death if you dared to speak like that to the head of the family,” another one of the elders scolded.
  • “You're being unfair, Grandpa Fynn,” she retorted loudly.
  • “Unfair? What's unfair about this? I am the head of the family, so what I say goes. Since your father was being good and is admitting to his mistakes, it's your turn now.”
  • Fabian glared at her and continued, “The Murrays are in our development period right now. Mr. Cordrington of Cordrington Corporation wants to marry you and have a marriage union with our family. This is great news to the Murrays. Now, as the head of the family, I am abolishing your marriage with Christopher. We will have your engagement party with Jared another day.”
  • “I don't agree to that, Uncle Fabian.” Julianna had never expected him to use the family rules to force her to marry Julianna. She couldn't help but shout her disagreements out of anger.
  • “You're a woman of the Murrays, so you have to make sacrifices for the family. This is an honor for you. Don't forget, the blood of the Murrays flows within you. Do you dare betray your family?” Francis scolded.
  • “That's right. Grandpa Francis is right. Julianna, you're one of us Murrays. This is your duty, so you can't refuse,” Fabio intervened.
  • “Hah! One of the Murrays? Have you ever treated my wife as one of your own? Besides, I don't think you're suited as the head of the Murrays, Fabian!” Christopher sneered.
  • Upon hearing that, Francis slammed his fist on the table and got up. While pointing a finger at Christopher, he reprimanded, “Who do you think you are? Do you think you're all that just because you were a soldier for a few years? Do you think you have the right to speak up here?”
  • “Who am I? My family saved Old Mr. Murray back then. Otherwise, do you think you'd exist, Fabian? Do you think the Murrays would achieve what you have right now? You're all stepping up to criticize me now. What? Are you, Fabian, the head of the Murrays, trying to be ungrateful?” Christopher questioned as he stared straight at Fabian.
  • Julianna couldn't help but glance at him. Warmth surged through her, and she felt that she didn't wait in vain all these years.
  • Christopher was the only one protecting her during these crucial moments.
  • At the same time, Fabian said furiously, “Such vainglorious remarks! It just seems like these are all things you made up to fool my father. As the head of the Murrays, I am kicking you out of our family!”
  • “That's right. You've been kicked out of the Murray family. Get lost!” Fabio roared.
  • Right then, the rest of the younger generation of Murrays started to shout, “The Murrays don't need useless trash like you! Get lost!”
  • “Stop embarrassing the Murrays!”
  • Hearing that, Christopher chuckled and said, “I don't acknowledge you as the head of the Murrays because Old Mr. Murray does not have such an unfilial son like you.”
  • Then, he turned to the three elders and added, “I have to ask you, elders. Seeing Fabian doing such things to his own brother and also forcing his niece to sacrifice herself, do you think he's a suitable head of the family?”
  • “Hahaha. If I, Fabian Murray, am not suited for this position, do you think Frank would suit it?” Fabian asked while pointing at his brother, who was still on his knees, trembling. He couldn't help but ridicule him as he said, “He's just like you, a piece of trash. I can step on you however and whenever I want!”
  • “Hah! If it was back then, you could have probably done so. But what do you have that makes you think you can do that to us now?” Christopher replied with a question, a cold smile on his face.
  • “What do I have? What does your family have? All you have is a useless piece of land that I don't want. It seems to me that you're too childish. Were you planning to use your military rank against me?” Fabian said in disdain.
  • At that, Christopher couldn't help but sneer. If he were to actually use his military rank against Fabian, the man would never be able to take it.
  • What was more, not being able to take it wasn't the problem. He just wasn't worthy enough for Christopher to bother doing so.
  • “Hah! You don't even know how childish you are, Fabian.” Christopher did not hesitate at all as he pulled out his phone and played a video of the news. “I am a reporter from Jadeborough, and I just received news that the city's leading real estate company, Centurion Corporation, has decided to invest two billion to develop Dragon Valley...”
