Chapter 4 Accused Wrongly

  • I scrunched my brows. "What are you talking about, mother? What is..going on here?"
  • "You can continue with the pretence the moment you are out of this pack, you shameless thief." Claire continued.
  • I was still so confused. How did they come to the conclusion that I did that? Just how?
  • The only claim was that I had been to the pack earlier that afternoon when Arthur summoned me and Claire, even though she was not there she said I must have taken the opportunity to reach her room and steal her jewelry. On top of that, I was accused of leaving the pack house immediately after stealing the items.
  • What a story! It was all perfectly made up and I could not even defend myself. I looked at Adrien who was sitting on a sofa in the living room. We had an unsettled issue but I had to swallow my pride and ask him for help, communicating with non-verbal cues.
  • My husband looked away, leaving me surprised. He was supposed to be the only person who could vouch for me over anything, being the closest.
  • Being tagged a thief in the Seventh Heritage Pack was literal death. A big torture. It was a thing of shame too, and I was even Adrien's wife.
  • There were no cameras within the main building that would help me prove my innocence so I was a suspect till whenever.
  • It was not a joke, never being a joke and it would never be a joke that a woman was wrongly accused of being a thief by her in-laws.
  • I was powerless and could not do anything.
  • Claire called the pack police on me instead of having me punished according to the pack's laws. I would be losing my head, if not.
  • "I need to talk to my husband." I said to one of the pack police as my hands were being cuffed.
  • "Adrien." I reached out but he wasn't willing to pay attention to me.. A smirk printed on my face as I followed the police quietly to the station where my statement was taken.
  • I really needed to talk to Adrien but it seemed this was how things would go. All in a day, I got betrayed, disappointed, cheated on and now in jail? What a rollercoaster!
  • I never stole her jewelry, but somehow, I still ended up with a sentence. I didn't even get to face the pack's court; instead, I was stuck in jail, suffering for something I didn’t do.
  • Every day, I felt myself slipping. My mental health took a huge hit — one moment, I’d be fine, and the next, I was losing it. Everything that happened over the past month was too much to handle.
  • The memories and images kept messing with my mind. It was bad enough being in jail, but Adrien didn’t even check up on me, not even once!
  • That was when reality hit me. If I kept going down this path, my life was headed for disaster.
  • ***
  • Four months had passed already. I lived in this damned prison for four whole months, sleeping on the cold, bare tattered floor and feeding on non-nutritious foods.
  • I had even forgotten about what Adrien did to me. I just wanted to leave here and return to him because I had forgiven him already.
  • At Least I still have feelings for him. I wouldn't blame him for my childlessness, it was all my fault I haven't gotten my wolf yet. Of course, I'm to blame especially when am mated to an alpha and I can't shift and stay strong beside him while he rules the pack.
  • To think of it, I was not even in the place to hold any grudge over him for something like that. Who was I to be angry?
  • The day of my release came and I waited for him to come pick me up but my hope was dented when he didn't show up. He was nowhere to be found.
  • Luckily, I knew my way around and so I put my heels to work, trekked to the Seventh heritage Pack's estate and yes, It took me hours before I got back to the pack, all drenched in sweat because of the scorching.
  • But the treatment I got from the securities was one I didn't expect.
  • "We have been given orders not to let you in, my lady." One of them said, yet politely.
  • "Why?" I furrowed my brows.
  • "That was the order, ma'am."
  • I couldn't believe my ears. I requested for the head security because we had more rapport and I wanted to hear from him directly. After throwing quite the tantrum, he showed up at the gate.
  • "Ken, what is going on? What is this your men are saying?"
  • He bowed his head. "This was a special order from Alpha Adrien himself." Ken replied to me. Was I supposed to be surprised though?
  • Even at the news, I was still yearning to see Adrien badly, after four months of being locked up in jail. There was this pain I felt in my heart and I believed that seeing him would help me heal faster.
  • I remained at the gate, bleeding internally, expressing a cry of the heart.
  • I was there till evening. It was not until then before Adrien arrived. The horn of his Lambo woke me up from my slumber where I had snuggled behind a broken penthouse.
  • My eyes beamed with hope the moment I realized it was him.
  • "Adrien." I muttered as I struggled to stand up. My knees and legs hurt and trembled so weakly that I almost lost my balance but I quickly leaned against the wall to hold my weight.
  • He alighted from the car and his eyes widened with surprise when he saw me.
  • "Mira?" He furrowed his brows.
  • "It's me, Adrien." I replied to him, almost tearing up.
  • "What are you doing here?" He inquired and I was taken aback.
  • "What do you mean what I am doing here? Of course I just got released from jail and I'm back. This is our home isn't it? I'm back now."
  • Adrien looked away and then turned to Ken who was already outside the huge, black gate.
  • "Let her in." He ordered and then while he drove in, I walked in right behind his car. I walked my ass down the long driveway to our building and just as I was about to enter, the guards blocked me from going in all over again.
  • They did not even mutter a word but their behavior spoke a lot already and before anything happened, some pack maid that I haven't met before approached with my stuff outside, in two traveling suitcases.
  • "W what are you doing?"
  • Madison walked out just in time. "My Lady." She squealed upon seeing me but then had to comport herself because of the people around watching.
  • Then she moved closer. "I missed you, my lady."
  • "Me too." I smiled faintly. Then she frowned, looking sad. "I am sorry this is happening but the Alpha said to bring your things out to you."
  • I was mute for a while. "It's fine, Maddie. I understand you perfectly. You can go back in, I understand."
  • It took a lot of coaxing before she went back in. I could see through her. She really loved me and felt so bad for me, but what could she do?
  • It was then I heard Adrien's voice from the balcony on the second floor.
  • "Take your things and leave, Mira. I never want to see you again ever again. The guard will bring the divorce papers so sign it, I already signed my own part so do yours before you take your leave.”
