• Aiden pushed the door open and stepped into the house, letting it swing shut behind him. He dropped his bag on the couch and ran a hand through his hair, clearly exhausted.
• Andrew, his father, sat at the dining table with a newspaper in hand. He glanced up at the sound of the door closing, then folded the paper neatly and set it aside when he noticed it was Aiden who had come in.
• "You're home?" his dad asked, glancing briefly toward the door for any sign of Tristan. Seeing none, he turned his attention back to Aiden. "Did you come home alone?" he asked, his tone calm but curious.
