Chapter 7

  • “Did you let a dog in or something?” Mirae's expression was unimaginable, she kept rubbing her nose as she gazed around the apartment.
  • “A dog?” she hissed, widening her eyes in confusion. “I have not seen one ever since I came here, except for…” She could not finish her sentence as she remembered that she decided not to tell Mirae about his encounter with a wolf.
  • “Except for what?” Mirae asked, stepping closer to her.
  • “For some cats,” she quickly said.
  • “Who's that?” Mirae's expression became even more irritated when she heard a sudden flushing of the toilet bowl.
  • “My friend is here with me,” she happily replied.
  • “A friend? You didn't tell me you know anyone here! Don't you think it's a little dangerous for other people to know that you are here?” Mirae became furious, sneering at what Noe told her.
  • “I just met him, okay! Can you please lower your voice, he might hear you.”
  • “He? You let a man in your apartment that you just apparently met!” Mirae's eyes widened, the irritation was evident in her tone.
  • “I am 23 now, Mirae!” She complained, pulling her to the direction away from the toilet.
  • “Yes, and you are a fugitive!” Mirae snorted, feeling totally upset and frustrated.
  • Noe felt offended, but she understood where Mirae was coming from. Just when she was about to say something to her, the bathroom door opened exposing Finn's tone physique.
  • “Now I get it,” Mirae uttered, raising her left brow and then curling her lips.
  • “Hi,” Noe sweetly greeted him. “This is Mirae, my friend.”
  • Finn realized that he left the necklace that Hal gave him in the pocket of his pants. Ever Since he left the pack, he had never encountered a wolf. At that moment, he realized that without the necklace in his body, he could smell other wolves and he could not keep his scent away from others too.
  • “Hey, I'm gonna be late for work,” Mirae immediately said. She obviously turned uncomfortable around Finn.
  • Finn, on the other hand, knew that Mirae had also recognized his wolf scent. He questioned Mirae's presence in Noe's life, as he was sure that he could not trace any wolf scent from the latter.
  • “She was just shocked to see you, I guess,” she told him, smiling sweetly at him.
  • Finn pulled off the towel that was wrapped around his waist and then he started drying his hair using it. Noe's jaw dropped and she needed to clear her throat as Finn stood in front of her completely naked.
  • “What? As if you haven't seen me naked,” he naughtily said while throwing a lustful look at her.
  • “”I am not staring at it,” she replied, concealing the embarrassment with an irritated tone and immediately turned her face away from him.
  • “I just saw you,” he said, moving closer to her intending to tease her further.
  • “Stay away from me,” she growled, trying to extricate herself from his grasp.
  • “Come on, stop acting like you don't like it,” he whispered, dabbing his lips gently into her ear.
  • “Look, I am hungry! Can you go out and get us food?” she asked him, turning around to get freed from his tight embrace.
  • “Yeah, sure!” He reached for his old clothes and started putting them on.
  • “Hey, I got some more clothes that you can use. I am also gonna be asking you to run to a nearby store to get some clothes for yourself,” she explained.
  • “I'm fine with my old clothes, I'll get new ones once I found a job,” he responded, disagreeing with her notion.
  • “No company would ever hire you if you wear that kind of clothes,” she uttered.
  • Realizing that she was right, Finn just took the money and he immediately went out.
  • “Hey, don't be gone for too long,” she charmingly told him.
  • Finn smiled, and then he moved closer to her and kissed her gently on her forehead. “I promise you won't miss me, I ‘’ll be back in no time.”
  • Just a few block away from Noe's apartment, Mirae spotted Finn as he passed by the cafe where Mirae decided to cool her temper down. She immediately got up and decided to follow Finn and confront him.
  • “Hey!” She growled, calling for his attention.
  • Finn turned to face her, but this time he could no longer pick up her scent because he made sure to hang the necklace around his neck.
  • “I don't know what kind of magic you used to hide your scent now, but I know who you are!” Her glare was sharp as if she was showing her dominance.
  • “What are you talking about?” he asked, trying to deny the obvious.
  • “Wolf, stay away from Noe!” She warned him, raising her voice at him.
  • “Who are you to tell me that?” he asked in return.
  • “Why are you hanging around her? Are you waiting for the chance to devour her?” he arrogantly asked.
  • “Is that your plan?” She moved closer to him, her heart was beating rapidly and she could feel that she was about to transform.
  • “Are you seriously going to expose yourself here? Look, I have no ill intentions towards her, if that worries you!”
  • “I know your kind,” she hissed.
  • “Really, tell me about what you know!” He explained, as if challenging her.
  • “I've said it already, but I am going to say it again—leave her alone!”
  • “You know I can't do that! Maybe, if you keep a watch on her all the time I wouldn't have to save her from those men who attacked her two nights ago!”
  • “What?” she snorted, moving a few inches back and finally composing herself into her usual human deportment.
  • “Of course she won't tell you, I could hear it from her thoughts. Look, Mirae, you saved her from her prison and now you are trying to limit her freedom!”
  • “What do you know about her? What did she tell you?”
  • Finn moved closer and stared at her eyes, “I am not sure if this is a normal wolf thing, but I can read others thoughts through the eyes.”
  • It was the first time she encountered someone like him, and she was sure that he never heard of anyone in her kind that possessed such ability.
  • “Where are you from?” she curiously asked, realizing a possible threat if she chose to challenge him.
  • “I have no pack,” he said, keeping his identity a secret. “I have been a nomad since I could remember. I just want to live like a normal human.”
  • “I can see that,” she agreed with a softer tone that time.
  • “I don't know much about myself and where I am from, I was an orphan and I started living on my own when I turned 18 a few years ago.” He opted to make up a story, realizing that the wolf in front of him didn't have the same ability to read others' thoughts.
  • “But still, you should not be around Noe,” she insisted. She was not raising her voice anymore, admitting that she was a no match to him.
  • “Look, I can penetrate your mind right now to know why you seem so protective of her. Don't make me!” he warned, already deciding to actually follow his own suggestion.
  • “We are not enemies, Finn,” she uttered.
  • “I want Noe, and ever since I saw her I knew that I could not keep her away from me,” he explained.
  • “But she can't be your mate, it's against the law!”
  • “I don't follow any wolf's order,” he sighed, and then he started walking away. “Noe is waiting for me, she asked me not to be gone for long.”
  • “I am sorry if I doubted you,” she humbly told him.
  • “I must go,” he replied.
