Chapter 4

  • Mirae had gone to Nevada for two days already, and Noe had slowly learned things on her own. She was getting familiar with the place, making her usual afternoon walk a breeze.
  • She would usually wake up around 8 in the morning, she would toast bread and make herself instant latte. She used to complain about how the coffee tasted, but she was getting used to it already.
  • At that time, Mirae had instructed her to prepare her CV for she had found a possible job for her. Noe was just waiting for Mirae's return so she could start working as a hostess in a restaurant of Mirae's former colleague.
  • “Good evening, what can I get you?” The waiter greeted her as soon as she got herself to a table. It was 9 in the evening and she needed to go out to get herself some food.
  • “Is it okay if I stay here while I wait for my orders?” she politely asked.
  • “Of course,” the waiter answered quickly.
  • “I'd like to order for takeaway please,” she started “My friend told me that you have delicious corn muffins here, I'd like to get twelve of those. I also want a full slab of baby back ribs in Hickory Glaze, and two sides of potato wedges.”
  • “Would that be all, maam?”
  • “Do you know any Arabic or middle eastern restaurants around the area?” she asked with a toned voice.
  • “There is one on the third block from here, they have amazing chicken tikka and biryani,” he whispered.
  • “Thank you,” she graciously replied.
  • “Just be cautious, there are usually a lot of bystanders in that area,” he warned.
  • After getting her orders and tipping her waiter, Noe excitedly got herself out of the restaurant and headed to the direction where the waiter pointed her to.
  • She felt happy to smell the familiar aroma from the herbs in the next restaurant that she got herself in. She realized that the dining staff were not middle eastern, so she felt comfortable asking about the menu without the fear of being recognized.
  • In just about 30 minutes, Noe got her orders already. She knew that she had enough food for the next two days or so, and she realized how wonderful microwave ovens were for people like her who had zero knowledge in cooking.
  • It was about 11 in the evening, the streets were settling down, and the sidewalks were cleared of people already. Noe's hearing ability was sharp, she noticed it when she arrived in New York, and it became sharper at night time.
  • She could hear the footsteps that were following her, so she thought of speeding her own pace. Just a few feet away from the block, a man appeared before him. Another man was behind her and she could feel the body of the man as it moved closer and closer to her.
  • “What do you want from me?” She growled, trying to get rid of the man's hand on her arm.
  • “It's cold, don't you want to warm up the night, sweety?” The man took his facemask off, showing his bearded face, crooked front teeth, and a scar on his left cheek.
  • “Let me go, or I will call the cops!” She snarled, turning around to see the man behind her that was already grinding his crotch area against her behind.
  • “These look fine,” the man at her back grabbed her behind while the other man covered her mouth with his hand and dragged her along the dark side street.
  • Her heart started to race, realizing that the place was very secluded and her screams would definitely be useless. She was pushed strongly to the ground, and the two men quickly held her hands and her legs pinning her to the icy ground.
  • “Promise it won't take long, just cooperate so we won't have to hurt you!” The tallest man whispered in her ear as he had already put himself on top of her.
  • Naya realized how cruel the real world was, thinking about whether her decision to escape was right or not.
  • The other man had already pulled her sweatpants down, and he could feel the hand of the man on top of her as it pulled out something from inside his own pants.
  • “You smell good, sweetheart. This might hurt a bit, but it will eventually feel good.”
  • Noe started to feel something hard was pointed on the space between her thighs, and she could only cry in fear as she knew what was going to happen to her.
  • “Hurry up, man!” The other guy shouted, his hand was inside his pants as if getting his toy ready for his turn.
  • Just when the man on top of her was to thrust his tool inside her, a loud howl shocked them as it sounded so close to them. After a few seconds, they heard a stomping of feet, it was loud and swift. The next thing that Noe noticed was a large dog had already bitten the man's neck and was pushed against the wall.
  • “What is this wolf doing here?” The other man hissed, pulling out a revolver from his waist.
  • Noe's fear started growing even more, seeing the humongous beast standing before her. Even before the man could fire a shot, the wolf was quick to attack him.
  • As the other man was left unconscious on the corner, the other one had quickly fled. Noe quickly pulled up her pants, feeling afraid that the wolf was going to attack her too.
  • The wolf turned to face her, it was not arching its back anymore and its tail was wagging as it lowered its head in front of Noe. She realized that the wolf saved her, so she caressed the wolf's forehead. She then put her nose against the wolf's nasal bridge, and thanked it for saving her.
  • The wolf howled, then it gave Noe another look before it ran and disappeared in the dark. Noe tried to follow it, but it had completely disappeared in the dark. She decided to return to her apartment immediately, and once she made it there, she decided not to tell Mirae about the incident.
