Chapter 10 Mercy

  • Bai Ruoxi went straight to the North Manor.
  • Although Qiao Xuanshuo had promised to help, she couldn’t just sit around and do nothing.
  • To her surprise, the butler told her that the two servants had quitted the job.
  • She asked for their phone numbers and addresses, planning to look for them right away.
  • But when Bai Ruoxi approached the gate of the villa, she ran into a middle-aged couple. She recognized them at once, with a mixed feeling.
  • Her father and stepmother were staring at her angrily. Bai Ruoxi broke the silence, “Dad, are you here for me?”
  • Bai Liuhua simply ignored her question while Liu Yue was more straightforward. “The police have told us that Shanshan didn’t use drugs. Then why are they keeping her for 45 days? I know that your brother is quite influential. Ask him to help release her.”
  • That was the most arrogant way of asking for help Bai Ruoxi had ever heard.
  • Only 45 days? That was already a light sentence given that Bai Shanshan actually committed prostitution. They should have been grateful.
  • Impatient to get an answer, Liu Yue pushed Bai Ruoxi’s shoulder and yelled, “Are you listening?”
  • Bai Ruoxi almost fell and managed to keep her balance. She looked at Liu Yue with a frown. “She deserves the punishment for what she did. This is a good chance for her to reflect and learn. Maybe she will spend the most meaningful 45 days there.”
  • Liu Yue was furious. She poked Bai Ruoxi’s forehead with her fingers, which featured scarlet nail polish, and cursed loudly, “You ungrateful little thing! She’s also your sister no matter what. How can you turn a blind eye to this? What a horrible person you are!”
  • Bai Ruoxi stepped back and took a deep breath. “What she did is much more horrible than…”
  • Bai Ruoxi didn’t bother to explain in detail.
  • Considering how they spoiled their little princess, they wouldn’t believe her anyway.
  • Bai Liuhua cut in, “Maybe others aren’t clear about the background of the famous General Qiao Xuanshuo, but I know that he’s the son of your stepfather. It does no harm for you to ask him for help, right? Your sister is suffering in the jail. Can’t you just do this little favor for her? What made you so heartless?”
  • Accused of being selfish and heartless, Bai Ruoxi was almost amused.
  • “Shanshan has never hurt you. Why do you have to be so ruthless?” Liu Yue scolded.
  • “If you don’t help, you will no longer be my daughter.” he claimed in an exasperated voice.
  • Bai Ruoxi couldn’t believe what she just heard.
  • This man had given her little love since childhood, and now he was threatening to threw her out?
  • At this moment, the gate opened slowly and an SUV emerged.
  • Liu Yue reacted quickly and dragged Bai Ruoxi to stopped the car.
  • She waved and bowed to the car, smiling respectfully and humbly.
  • Liang turned around and talked to Qiao Xuanshuo, who was sitting in the backseat. “Mr. Qiao, Miss Bai and another woman are in our way.”
  • Qiao Xuanshuo frowned and when he looked up, someone was already knocking at the window.
  • He rolled it down and saw a woman with heavy makeup and tacky dress.
  • “Hello, Mr. Qiao. I’m Ruoxi’s stepmother. Technically speaking, we are also relatives. I’m sorry to bother you, but Ruoxi’s sister was arrested out of no reason and they are giving her a 45-day detention. Ruoxi doesn’t want her sister to suffer, so she hopes to ask you for help.”
  • She made a long speech in order to sound more convincing.
  • Bai Ruoxi, standing beside her, observed the man in the car silently.
  • He was given a face beautiful like an angel, but his heart was nothing related to kindness.
  • Instead, he always seemed aloof and detached.
  • Liu Yue was still chattering, “Ruoxi is your sister, and Shanshan is Ruoxi’s sister. Why not see Shanshan as your sister too? Please help us, Mr. Qiao, for the sake of Ruoxi. It shouldn’t be a big deal for you.” However, Qiao Xuanshuo made no response to her. He looked ahead indifferently, but he didn’t ask the driver to move on either.
  • Liu Yue speculated that he might be waiting for Bai Ruoxi to talk, so she pinched Bai Ruoxi’s arm and whispered, “Ask him to show mercy.”
  • Bai Ruoxi frowned at the sharp pain. She glared at Liu Yue silently.
  • But what could she do? Tit for tat?
  • When she lived with them, she was beaten up by her father once only because she bickered with her stepmother.
  • Unwilling though, she chose to obey. “Brother, please help her.”
  • Liu Yue nodded and echoed. “Yes. Please help her.”
  • Qiao Xuanshou gazed at Bai Ruoxi with his eagle eye. After a while, he ordered coldly, “Liang, tell them to check Bai Shanshan’s criminal records. Maybe 45 days is not enough. She needs to learn from the mistakes.”
  • None of them had expected this.
  • Totally dumbstruck, they didn’t know how to process.
  • “Got it.” Liang took out his phone and made a call immediately.
  • Bai Ruoxi knew that he wouldn’t help, but she never thought that it could be even worse.
  • Looking into his charming eyes, Bai Ruoxi felt cold and insecure.
  • She never knew what he was thinking about or how much he hated her.
  • Qiao Xuanshuo asked emotionlessly, “Anything else?”
  • How ironic! Anything else?
  • She didn’t dare.
  • Asking him to save her mother had probably costed her whole future.
  • Now even attempting to seek help would worsen the situation. She looked down and smiled bitterly.
  • “No,” she murmured.
