Chapter 6 Am I Your ATM

  • After some time, the two of them reached the rooftop.
  • Mirabelle's back was facing Nathaniel as she silently began to roll up the sleeves of her suit.
  • This jerk is relentless! I'm going to give him a piece of my mind. After all, I'm a black belt in kickboxing. Mirabelle sniggered to herself.
  • “Hey, I just want to borrow some money. You don't have to fight me.” Nathaniel shrugged.
  • “What do you think I am? Am I your ATM?”
  • Mirabelle suddenly wheeled around, lifted her slender leg, and kicked Nathaniel in the face.
  • However, Nathaniel grabbed her fair ankle before she could land the hit. He then asked with a half-smile, “Um... What are you doing? Do you think that our posture was too boring last night? Is that why you're trying to tell me that your body is flexible, and it can—”
  • “You shameless jerk! Go to hell!”
  • Mirabelle's face flushed bright red as she tried to pull her leg out of Nathaniel's grasp.
  • Alas, no matter how hard she tried to break free, he did not budge at all.
  • “Let me go!”
  • She was furious and anxious, as she didn't expect him to be so strong.
  • No wonder my waist still hurts...
  • The redness on her delicate face became more intense as she recalled what had happened the night before.
  • “That's enough. I'm just borrowing twenty thousand. I'll pay you back.”
  • After saying that, Nathaniel let go of her leg.
  • “Just twenty thousand?”
  • Mirabelle stared at the man suspiciously and felt as though she couldn't read what was on his mind.
  • Earlier in the office, I asked him to name his price, but he didn't even want a single cent. He only wanted me to fire Jonny. And now, he wants to borrow only twenty thousand?
  • Her bafflement was similar to when an ordinary person was asked to lend two cents to someone.
  • “Yup, just twenty thousand. If you're worried, I can write you an IOU!”
  • Nathaniel nodded solemnly.
  • “Sure. I'll transfer it to you!”
  • Mirabelle gritted her teeth, took out her phone, and transferred twenty thousand to Megan's phone.
  • After that, she crossed her arms and said coldly, “You don't have to pay me back. Just stay away from me in the future!”
  • Nathaniel blinked and asked, “Are you afraid that I'll pester you?”
  • “What if I am? We're just not on the same level!”
  • With that, she marched away and left the rooftop.
  • She was the only one shouldering the entire weight of Shersby Group.
  • If she had to marry someone, she would naturally choose a man whose identity and status was equal to hers to secure the position of her family in Wildefield.
  • Although Nathaniel had a charming face, he was a scavenger who could barely make ends meet.
  • She wasn't at all interested in an unambitious jerk like him.
  • Moreover, she couldn't accept the gossip and public opinion that might be directed at them if they really were to date each other.
  • A few minutes later, Nathaniel returned to Howard's ward. He then handed the phone to Megan and told her that he would be away for two days.
  • Since he had recovered his memory, he must go back to Mapleton and see if he could find his parents' remains near the cliff.
  • Although deep down, Nathaniel hoped that his parents were still alive, they didn't come and look for him after three whole years. They were most probably already dead.
  • Although he was upset, he still had to accept the harsh reality.
  • He reached Mapleton in the evening.
  • Basking in the afterglow, he carefully searched for clues under the cliff that was filled with vines and thorns, occasionally bending his tall body.
  • In the end, he found nothing but a few strips of cloth that were the remains of a shirt.
  • Enduring the grief, he took the strips of cloth with him and climbed up the cliff.
  • Poison Sect's building, which used to be magnificent, had been reduced to indiscernible rubble.
  • Gusts of wind blew past and howls echoed among the mountains.
  • It sounded as if ghosts were calling out to Nathaniel, telling him their resentment and grievances.
  • “Dad, Mom, my friends and allies in Poison Sect, I, Nathaniel Ludlam, swear that I will spend the rest of my life finding the murderers and pay tribute to you all with their heads!”
  • With tears in his eyes, Nathaniel clenched his fists tightly and roared with a hoarse voice.
  • After that, he collected some stones and buried the strips of cloth that he found beneath the stones, building a cenotaph.
  • Subsequently, he lit a bonfire and sat silently in front of the cenotaph.
  • He ended up spending the entire night sitting there motionlessly.
  • The next day, his eyebrows and the tip of his nose were covered in cool morning dew.
  • He bowed at the cenotaph with utmost reverence before saying, “Dad, Mom, I promise you that one day, Poison Sect will rise again from these ruins.”
  • After that, Nathaniel stood up and was ready to head back to Wildefield.
  • The Tasward family had saved his life, so he couldn't sit back and do nothing when they were facing difficulties.
  • Suddenly, a charred stone pillar collapsed, revealing a row of well-preserved stairs behind it.
  • The sect has a secret room?
  • Nathaniel had once heard from his parents that he was not able to enter the secret room until he took over Poison Sect.
  • I wonder what secrets are hidden in the room?
  • He strode over, descended the stairs, and saw some collapsed boulders.
  • It was obvious that someone had entered the secret room. Even if there were treasures inside, they were all probably taken away.
  • Nathaniel clenched his fists as he was overwhelmed by anger.
  • After stepping over the large boulders, he entered the cube-shaped secret room.
  • All four sides of the room were lined with bookshelves. Ancient books collected by Poison Sect were neatly placed on the shelves.
  • There were books about martial arts, parasitic bane, medical skills, mystic arts, and many more.
  • Nathaniel gave those books a perfunctory glance. To him, the books held no value as he had been learning all this knowledge since he was young.
  • However, the books would surely cause a huge uproar if they were auctioned in the city.
  • That would mean that the people who barged into the sect were not only strong but also had a rich background, as they weren't the least interested in these precious books.
  • Even the antiques and paintings on the other shelves were untouched.
  • However, due to the fire, the antiques and paintings had turned brown under the scorchingly high temperature.
  • They would not be worth much even if they were auctioned.
  • It seems that I have to start from scratch to enact my revenge!
  • Nathaniel let out a sigh and left the secret room. He then moved the boulders to block the entrance.
  • After all, everything inside was the efforts of Poison Sect's ancestors.
  • That was the only thing he could do to protect those precious treasures.
  • Bye, Mom and Dad!
  • He turned around and stared longingly at the cenotaph before quickly descending the mountain.
