Chapter 4 Robbery

  • “T-Transfer? To where?” Mirabelle grabbed the director's sleeves and asked anxiously.
  • She didn't believe even a single word from Derek regarding the so-called parasitic bane.
  • From her point of view, something like that only existed in movies or novels.
  • “My suggestion is you should transfer him to Summerbank's hospital. Judging from your father's rare condition, it's best for him if you could transfer him to a larger hospital.” The director sighed.
  • That was the first time he encountered such a strange disease throughout his years of being a doctor. Unlike other poisons, the poison in Fraser's body seemed like it was alive. They weren't able to cleanse it, and to make matters worse, it was rapidly reproducing.
  • “Sir, why don't you be straightforward? Just tell her that her father will die even if she manages to transfer him to a better hospital. Tell her that his father will be dead in ten minutes!” said Derek confidently.
  • He even had the luxury of checking the time on his wristwatch.
  • “In that case, I'll get in touch with my friends in Summerbank right now!” Mirabelle, who was not in the mood to entertain Derek, fished out her phone to call her friends.
  • “Sir, this is bad! The patient's blood oxygen level just dropped below fifty percent!” A nurse came rushing out from the ward nervously.
  • The director's expression changed instantly. Before he darted back into the ward, he warned, “Ms. Shersby, you should prepare yourself for the worse. I'm afraid there's no time for a transfer now. “
  • “Dad...”
  • The shocking news seemingly drained all Mirabelle's energy and almost caused her to faint.
  • “You have eight more minutes to decide your father's fate.”
  • Derek looked at his wristwatch again.
  • Hmph. You slut! I've been trying to win your heart for three years straight, and you wouldn't even smile at me! I'll teach you a lesson so you wouldn't think I'm an easy-going person and take me for granted!
  • “Derek Lineker...”
  • Mirabelle gritted her teeth as she had already realized that her father's fate was within the man's grasp.
  • Hence, as much as she hated Derek, she had to force herself to calm down. With that thought in mind, she nodded. “All right! If you can save my father, I'll give you anything you want.”
  • “Good! That's what I want to hear. Now, please sign this.”
  • Derek was obviously well prepared, for he whipped out a contract and a pen before handing them to Mirabelle.
  • “Contract? What is this contract about?”
  • That caught Mirabelle off guard, and she quickly took the contract and had a look.
  • Minutes later, she trembled in anger. “Derek! Have you no shame? This is daylight robbery!”
  • It turned out that Derek wanted her to make an announcement through the most prominent newspaper publisher in Wildefield that she would be marrying him.
  • Aside from that, he even wanted to control the entire Shersby Group's shares.
  • To Mirabelle, she was willing to cast her pride and ego aside by publishing something so humiliating publicly to save her father. However, handing the Shersby Group to someone else was impossible, for the company was her father's lifetime of hard work.
  • Even if they had managed to save him, her father would die again out of anger after knowing she gifted the company to someone else.
  • “Oh? So you're saying the company is more important, right?” Derek shrugged.
  • “You...” Mirabelle choked on her words from anger as she glowered at Derek's cunning and evil face.
  • Left without a choice, she clenched her teeth before picking up the pen and signing the contract. After that, she said with a chilling tone, “Derek, if you dare to lie to me, I'll do everything I can to bring you and your family down with me!”
  • “Relax. That's not going to happen because you're mine now. I'd only treat you with love and care. Hahaha.” Derek was enjoying this moment after he finally had his way with Mirabelle.
  • After all, though Mirabelle was no longer a virgin, she was still overwhelmingly attractive compared to other women. Besides, Shersby Group had also come into his possession.
  • He had it all figured out. As soon as he was sick of Mirabelle, he would kick her out of his life.
  • Without her identity as Shersby Group's CEO, Mirabelle was nothing more than just a plain, beautiful lady.
  • “Congratulations, Mr. Lineker. You've claimed such a beautiful woman as a prize and even propelled the Lineker family to the next level!”
  • After licking Derek's boots, Quentin pushed the door open and entered the room.
  • “Belle, oh, Belle. Your father will soon be okay. Now, your hubby here would like to see a sweet smile from you.”
  • Derek locked his eyes on Mirabelle's beautiful face as he teased shamelessly.
  • “Get out of my sight,” Mirabelle replied sternly.
  • She then turned away as she did not wish to see Derek for even a second.
  • In the meantime, Quentin gestured for everyone else in the ward to leave.
  • He was a famous doctor in Wildefield, and even the head of the Ministry of Health was his student.
  • “Thank goodness! Then we'll be counting on you now, Dr. Hall.”
  • Hence, upon seeing his appearance, the director and the doctors all let out a sigh of relief.
  • None of them knew how to save Fraser, and Quentin's arrival had just saved them from the responsibilities they had to shoulder if anything bad happened to Fraser.
  • Soon, silence ensued in the room.
  • Quentin glanced at the dying Fraser before taking out a thumb-sized bottle from his pocket and placing it under Fraser's nose. He was trying to lure the parasitic bug out of Fraser's body with the substance in the bottle.
  • By right, the parasitic bug in Fraser would obediently crawl right into the bottle in half a minute.
  • Yet, as time ticked away, the parasitic bug within Fraser showed no intention of crawling out. The only movement in the room was the beeping of the machines.
  • “What is happening?”
  • Quentin's expression darkened immediately, and his hands trembled, for he knew he would be the first to be blamed if Fraser died.
  • He might look quite impressive, but he was nothing more than an insignificant ant before the big shots in the business industry.
  • All of a sudden, the electrocardiogram monitor let out a screech before the curvy lines on the screen went flat.
  • Fraser was dead.
  • Oh no! This is not good!
  • Quentin's hand trembled, and the bottle in his hand fell to the floor, shattering into pieces.
  • I've got nothing to do with this!
  • Quentin immediately turned around and left the ward. When he got to the corridor, his teeth were chattering, and with a trembling voice, he said, “Mr. Lineker, I've done my best. P-Please excuse me for now!”
  • With that said, he hurriedly entered the elevator and escaped.
  • “Seems like your father is all right now!”
  • Derek, however, had obviously misunderstood Quentin's words.
  • He had a smile on his face when he opened the door to the ward.
  • “Um... What is going on?”
  • Despite having no medical knowledge, Derek, too, was able to tell that Fraser was no longer breathing.
  • “Dad...”
  • Meanwhile, Mirabelle fell to her knees after seeing the flatline displayed by the monitor. Overwhelmed by the sadness of losing her father, she cried out, “Dad... Please wake up!”
  • Meanwhile, in the corridor, Nathaniel had finally stabilized Howard's vitals. However, more efforts were needed to have Howard regain consciousness.
  • Upon hearing the faint crying coming from the ward next door, the confused Nathaniel immediately asked, “Meg, what's going on over there?”
  • “It seems like something happened to Ms. Shersby's father,” Megan replied, unsure.
  • “Ms. Shersby?”
  • Nathaniel listened carefully and finally confirmed it really was Mirabelle's voice. Though the lady was quite full of herself, they had, after all, slept with each other.
  • Thus, Nathaniel immediately said to Megan, “I'll go and have a look!”
