• She sighed and continued to try and focus on what he was saying, unsuccessfully. By the end of the service, she'd barely heard a word he'd said. She followed him up to his office as she always did on Sundays. The secretary, an elderly woman, smiled sweetly as she gathered up her things and got ready to leave.
• "Hello, Samantha dear," she said.
