Chapter 13 The Conspiracy

  • The heavy rain had continued throughout the entire night.
  • In the air, there was a lingering hint of an earthy fragrance.
  • This was the first time it had rained heavily since Lewis and the others arrived at this island.
  • Ruth finally woke up after she stayed unconscious all night.
  • On the other hand, Leah and Erin were at the entrance of the cave brushing up their fighting skills.
  • However, in Lewis’ opinion, their fighting skills were full of inconsistencies and loopholes.
  • He did not say anything about it and just smiled as he continued observing them.
  • As Ruth had recovered a part of her strength, she held onto a stick and walked out from the cave.
  • She looked at Lewis who was sitting on a rock by the side and slowly walked over to him before sitting down beside him. Along with Lewis, they both stared toward the distant sea.
  • “About yesterday, thank you. If it wasn’t for you, I’m afraid my friends and I would have lost our lives,” Ruth said gently.
  • “It’ll be enough if you don’t accuse me of molesting you,” Lewis light-heartedly replied.
  • “Truth be told, initially, I thought you did it on purpose! But when you recklessly sucked the poison out, I realized that I was mistaken about you,” Ruth chuckled.
  • “It’s still too early to thank me right now. Just because yesterday’s heavy rain washed away the traces we left behind, it doesn’t mean we are completely safe. The horror of a giant snake is unimaginable! Moreover, we don’t have any long-ranged weapons. I’m afraid even before we get close to it, we’ll be attacked by it! Also, will our attacks be able to break through the protection of the snake’s scales? If we’re unable to do so, all our defenses and attacks will be in vain,” Lewis looked toward the distant mountain forests as he said this.
  • That was the place Lewis had found Ruth and the others yesterday.
  • And further away from it were another group of people that included Gavin and his followers.
  • There were nearly 30 of them in that group.
  • “Since we’re already here, we might as well accept our fate and move on. I’m a woman and I’m not afraid, so what would a man like you be afraid of?” Ruth said as she gave a gentle smile.
  • “How much do you know about this place?” Lewis asked.
  • “I'm not sure, but Henry did mention that this is a tropical island. One thing’s for sure; no country has discovered this island yet. This island doesn’t even exist on the satellites’ map. I’m afraid only the Chairman Daxon Murray of the Three-Life Biotech Company would have the answers to where this place is located.” Ruth breathed in heavily before answering him.
  • “Daxon Murray? Why would you say that? I remember Daxon Murray as someone who is well over 50 years old. How would he know about all these?” Lewis frowned.
  • “If I were to tell you that everyone onboard the Dreamliner were top elites of society, how would you feel? Besides, only those who have a special set of skills would be invited onboard the Dreamliner. Not just anyone with certain achievements would be invited onboard,” Ruth said as she had a grave look on her face.
  • “Oh?” Lewis furrowed his eyebrows and snorted lightly.
  • “What? You don’t believe me? I suppose you haven’t read the personal information of every passenger onboard that Three-Life Company provided you with. On those documents, it publicly states everyone’s name, age, marital status as well as the fields they expertize in. Amongst the 200 passengers, those who study biology, microorganisms, and medicines account for 60%. The remaining 40% include ordinary people. And among these ordinary people, all of them are involved in very specialized fields which are very rare to find!” Ruth added.
  • “Do you know what Suzy specializes in? She knows an ancient sacrificial dance, which is both elegant and beautiful to look at!”
  • “Look at Erin, that girl. Do you know what her profession is? Vocal music. She knows how to pronounce ancient syllables, which sounds very strange. She’s able to use modern words to produce a unique syllable. If you looked at it from a fantasy point of view, it looks like she knows all the spells and curses!” Ruth continued.
  • “Take a look at Leah; do you know what that girl specializes in? She specializes in cell research. She has an eccentric view of cell regeneration and cell division. She has also published professional research papers in an international journal, which has attracted much attention domestically and abroad!”
  • “Now guess what was written on your profile?” Ruth chuckled as she had guessed that Lewis had yet to read the documents.
  • “Didn’t they write the Chairman of Wonderspace Technology Co. Ltd.?” Lewis furrowed his eyebrows and asked.
  • “Correct! But there’s no reward for you,” Ruth chuckled.
  • “Don’t play any more games with me!” Lewis frowned. He felt that this shipwreck had made him fall into a scheme that had been plotted for a long time.
  • “Archaeology! Your profile stated that you were the nation’s youngest and most specialized archaeologist. It also stated that you have a deep understanding of unknown animals, plants, and characters! Three years ago, you used your identity as an ordinary passerby to translate a piece of prehistoric writing. Although you did not leave your name behind, Three-Life Company still managed to find you through tiny clues and traces,” Ruth continued calmly.
  • “In ancient times, dancers have another role to play, which is to offer sacrifices to their ancestors, or the heavens and the earth with their unique dance. The person in charge of the sacrifices will need to recite the sacrificial languages using a unique vocal tone to collaborate with the sacrifice. Do you think it’s a coincidence that those two persons had appeared on board the ship? In addition to your profession as an archaeologist and your understanding of ancient writings, you would always translate the writings into modern words when you encounter any incomprehensible writings. You, coupled with Suzy and Erin, would make the perfect combination for conducting sacrifices! If Three-Life Company really does have a plot, then the three of you would be their top priority! Or perhaps, they have substitutes for the three of you, but it is still undeniable that Three-Life Company would pay the most attention to the three of you!” Ruth said seriously.
  • “It’s not that mysterious, right?” Lewis furrowed as he asked.
  • “I don’t like to think so. But Lewis, do you think Scott Gardner would let you come out so easily ever since he framed you? And the day you came out was the day Three-Life Company’s Dreamliner set sail. Don’t you feel that this coincidence is too uncanny?” Ruth chuckled again.
  • “Who are you, exactly?” Lewis furrowed his eyebrows again as he asked her.
  • “Let me formally introduce myself. I’m Ruth Hunter; I’m a senior police officer of the No.13 investigation team. I’m responsible for investigating one of the secret researches being conducted by Three-Life Company. My other identity is a plant researcher. I’m able to roughly analyze how many epochs a place has gone through and which products were being left behind just by looking at the types of plants.” Ruth’s voice had shocked Lewis to the core.
  • If what Ruth said was true, their identities were extraordinary!
  • So, what did Three-Life Company really want to achieve?
