Chapter 12 A Snake Disaster

  • Did Lewis just… expose his true character?
  • “Lewis, you—” Suzy’s tears rolled down as she unwillingly questioned him.
  • “I knew it. Suzy, there should be some snakebite medication near us. The three of you, hurry up and search the area around us. See if there is any plant that looks like the shape of this snake and bring it back to me this instant!” At this very moment, Lewis had already taken off Ruth’s pants.
  • Noticing the blood trickling down near Ruth’s private area, Lewis’ face showed that he was right all along.
  • Two fingers from the side of her private area, two tiny holes had already darkened in color.
  • “Lewis, you…” Suzy was raging as she continued.
  • This Lewis! He’s even trying to separate the three of them apart at this critical moment!
  • “Enough with the nonsense. If you don’t want her to die, hurry up and find it!” After saying this, he lifted Ruth’s leg and placed it on his shoulders; he hurriedly placed his mouth onto her wound and sucked on it with all his might.
  • After three seconds, Lewis tilted his head to the side and spat out a mouthful of black blood.
  • “Why are you in a daze? Please hurry up and find it!” Lewis yelled again after seeing Suzy and the others were standing in a daze.
  • F*ck! They were racing against the clock right now but these three women just stood there and looked at him sucking the poisoned blood out.
  • “Oh… okay…” Suzy nodded blankly and swiftly went around searching for the plant.
  • After three minutes, she brought back a blade of green, snake-like, grass.
  • “Lewis, look! Is this what you’re looking for?” Suzy handed the blade of grass over to him and asked.
  • “Yes, this will do. But this is not enough, keep searching!” Lewis reached out to grab the blade of grass over, shook the dirt off of it, and put it into his mouth. He chewed the grass into pieces and spat it out.
  • He then lowered his head to suck at Ruth’s wound. He only stopped sucking on her wound when fresh red blood started trickling down. Lewis then quickly covered her wound with the chewed-up grass that was in his hands.
  • “Lewis, look. Is this useful?” Leah asked after she brought over a red fruit that was the size of a thumb.
  • “A snake fruit? Why is there a snake fruit here?” Lewis exclaimed as his expression changed for the worse.
  • “Lewis, w-what’s wrong?” Seeing his grave expression, Suzy asked worriedly.
  • “Previously, I read an ancient book that has records of strange animals and monsters. It is said that the snake fruit grows following the birth of a python. Wherever there are snake fruits, there must be huge snake species living nearby!” Lewis explained with a grave expression on his face.
  • “Leah, where did you find this snake fruit?” with a serious face, he asked.
  • “Over there. There is a ditch about half a kilometer from here. Beside the ditch, there is this fruit! I saw this two days ago,” Leah hurriedly explained.
  • “Let’s not worry about it. Do you all have anything you want to bring along? We have to leave this place immediately; quick!” Lewis stood up instantly and said.
  • However, the moment he stood up, he felt his body sway for a brief second.
  • “Lewis, what’s wrong?” Suzy anxiously asked after noticing how his body swayed. It was at this moment that she noticed that his lips had turned black!
  • “I’m fine. It’s just that I was poisoned when I sucked out the venom from Ruth. The snake fruit, also known as Salak fruit, contains poison. Generally, it cannot be eaten unless the person has been poisoned by snake venom. The poison in Salak fruit, when mixed with the venom from snakes, will form an antitoxin in the victim. From there, it can help in getting rid of the snake venom. However, where the Salak fruit grows, there will always be a huge snake nearby. The fruit is also the favorite food of snakes. It is said to be extremely difficult to get hold of the Salak fruit. Leah was able to bring back the fruit because the snake might be out hunting and has yet to return. We must seize this opportunity to leave here before the snake returns; or else, a disaster would be waiting for us!” Lewis explained as he placed two Salak fruits into his mouth and chewed.
  • “Help Ruth consume these two fruits, and then carry her away,” Lewis said anxiously.
  • “But Lewis, that Nightsnare is enough to feed us for days!” Erin said as she pointed toward the skinned Nightsnare.
  • “Just leave it here, and let’s go! Since the Salak fruit has already ripened, it will release a unique smell that will attract nearby snakes! This snake that attacked Ruth is your best proof,” Lewis said gravely.
  • “We’re attracting the small snakes right now. If we wait for a few moments more, larger snakes from far away would follow suit. By then, I’m afraid the only path we have is to be eaten by those snakes,” he added.
  • “Suzy, please help us to take our clothes. Erin and I will carry Ruth!” Leah instructed as she passed two bags to her.
  • “Please find something to place on Ruth’s wound. If her blood drips to the ground, I’m afraid the snakes will follow the smell of the blood. The reason the previous snake attacked Ruth was that it smelled her blood,” Lewis added.
  • “I see!” Erin hurriedly took out a sanitary pad from Suzy’s bag. Unafraid of whether Lewis saw it or not, she plastered it on Ruth’s private area.
  • “Let’s go!” After saying this, Lewis turned around and took a few burning branches from the campfire. As they retreated, he used the torches to burn the places they had walked on before.
  • “Lewis, what are you…” Looking at him, Suzy asked in a puzzled manner.
  • “I’m using the fire to burn away our smell. With this, even if huge snakes are chasing after us, it wouldn’t be easy for them to find our smell. However, I’m unsure if this method of dealing with ordinary snakes would work on giant snakes.” Lewis looked at the mountain forest with grave eyes.
  • He had not expected that they would be so close to such a dangerous place.
  • If he and Suzy had not followed the traces, Ruth and the others would most likely end up in the snake’s mouth.
  • Even now, Lewis was uncertain if they were really safe.
  • They had just escaped from the threat of a Nightsnare, and now they were facing a snake disaster. This had caused his face to turn dark with anger.
  • After returning to the cave they had previously stayed in, the sky had already turned dark.
  • Bang… Just as they reached the cave, the sky gave out a rumbling noise, causing Lewis to look to the sky.
  • There was no moonlight tonight, and under the dim sky were huge, dark, and puffy clouds.
  • A few seconds later, it started raining cats and dogs.
  • Lewis wanted to thank the heavens at this moment!
  • He was unsure if burning their smell would help obstruct the huge snakes from chasing after them. However, he was certain that this heavy rain would be enough to wash away their traces throughout their journey.
  • Hopefully, their situation would improve, and they would have the chance to return alive!
  • However, Lewis was certain about one thing: even if this heavy rain washed away their traces, they were still in grave danger and the giant snake would come after them, sooner or later!
