• Cousins by lineage, Alfonso and Caramia Smith, both of whom were their respective parents' only offspring, were at odds with each other for as long as they could recall.
• From the moment Caramia turned three and Alfonso six, the two had been sworn enemies and their animus only grew with each passing year.
