Chapter 28 The Only Man I Want

  • Victor’s arm locks around my waist so hard it steals my breath. The world tilts. He drags me sideways out of the car’s path, loses his footing on the polished concrete, and twists at the last second so his body hits first.
  • Concrete slams up hard. My bag tears out of my hand. Air leaves my lungs in one brutal rush as Victor hauls me with him and takes the worst of the fall. A car screams past so close I feel the violent rush of air against my legs.
  • Something metal crashes somewhere behind us with a sharp, echoing blast that rattles through the garage.
