  • She stood across from me at the other side of the table, folding her hands across her chest. "Grayson, we need to talk." Her voice was firm, and they seemed to somehow echo in the closed room. I knew exactly what she wanted to talk about even though she hadn't said it yet. She'd informed me yesterday that she'd had a few things to take care of at home, disappearing right after the meeting with Keera's team. She must have caught up with what happened. I still tried to play it cool.
  • I casually raised an eyebrow, as casually as I could manage, that is "What's on your mind, Ria?" I asked, leaning back in my chair. She faltered a bit. Had she expected me to immediately get defensive? Even I knew that would be the wrong way to handle this. Getting defensive would only mean I have something to hide, and since I wanted to convince her that I didn't, I had to do the exact opposite. I tilted my head expectantly and that seemed to snap her out of whatever haze she was in.
