Chapter 12 Deception
- "Huh?" Freya snapped back to reality. She hurriedly composed herself and said with a smile, "It's fine; the child's already been discharged."
- Henry seemed particularly interested in this. He put down his pen and leaned back, looking at her with keen interest. "Discharged so soon?"
- Talking is one thing, but why is he putting down his pen? Can't we have a chat after he signs?
- Freya was inwardly screaming, but she maintained a perfectly appropriate smile. She replied with a smile, "There wasn't much of a problem, so the child had been discharged."
- "What illness was it?" Henry continued to ask.
- "The kid had a slight fever, but it's all better now. My neighbour took a day off today to look after them, and the doctor prescribed some preventive medicine."
- Freya was trying her best to answer concisely, hoping he would stop asking more questions and just sign the document. How could a CEO have so much time to chat with his subordinates?
- Henry glanced at her, his tone indifferent. "You should be careful with children."
- Is this him showing concern?
- Freya looked at him strangely. She found Henry was different today. A thought crossed her mind, making her suddenly tense up, only to dismiss it immediately.
- Impossible. I have been so careful. He couldn't possibly know about the twins.
- "Children are fragile; you do need to be cautious." Freya added another sentence, trying to keep her composure.
- Henry gave her a deep look without saying a word.
- The office fell silent.
- Freya couldn't read Henry's thoughts and didn't dare to speak out of turn. She was anxious but maintained a calm facade.
- Finally, the man moved and picked up the pen again. Freya's eyes lit up, and she locked her gaze on his hand intently.
- Sign it! Sign it quickly!
- "Freya," he suddenly said, his voice cold and indifferent and tinged with a hint of unnoticeable anger. "You're quite bold."
- "W-what?" Freya's heart sank, a sense of foreboding rising within her.
- "Don't you know I always read the contract thoroughly before signing?"
- Henry's cold gaze swept over her as he swiftly signed the document and the remaining files, then tossed them onto the desk.
- Freya looked at the documents on the desk, then at Henry's stern face. She realised her plan had failed, and she had no chance of resistance left.
- "Mr. Henry, I had my reasons this time ... My loyalty to Motionbridge Corporation is unquestionable. I would never harm the company's interests!
- "I promise it won't happen again! Please trust me!"
- Henry, who had initially just wanted to tease her, didn't expect such a scene. Her plea for forgiveness came so fast that he didn't know how to react for a moment.
- It seems she's quite experienced in this!
- Not getting a response from him, Freya assumed he was too frustrated to talk to her. She clenched her teeth and put on a pitiful expression.
- "Mr. Jackman, please be the bigger person and forgive me this time. I promise it won't happen again."
- This made Henry even more dissatisfied.
- Had she used this tactic on other men to secure contracts?
- Henry stared into her watery eyes. He raised an eyebrow and smiled coldly. Henry asked leisurely, "Do you know your actions are considered fraud by law?
- "Fraud is a form of deception. I hate deception the most."
- Freya stuttered, "I ... "
