Chapter 10 Are You Trying to Kill Me?
- Freya faced him with enormous pressure. Her clear eyes reflected the streetlight's glow; there were tiny, fragmented lights in her eyes. The sincerity and openness in her smile were evident.
- After a moment of staring, Henry retracted his step. He lazily leaned back, closed his eyes, and grunted softly in response.
- "Take care, Mr. Jackman," Freya said, her brows arching in a slight smile as she watched him leave after his faint response.
- Once the black Maybach disappeared from her sight, Freya hid at Rosewood Hospital for another two minutes before rushing to Magnolia Hospital nearby.
- At Magnolia Hospital.
- Freya ran up to the third floor, avoiding the slow elevator.
- She arrived at the bedside, panting. Her face was full of concern. When she saw Jasmine's pale face tinged with an abnormal flush, she reached out to touch her forehead.
- "Jasmine, how do you feel?"
- Hearing her mother's voice, Jasmine smiled weakly. She said, "Mommy, I'm fine. I'm getting an injection. I'll be better soon."
- Freya's heart ached terribly.
- She held Jasmine's hand in one of hers and gently caressed her face with the other. Freya comforted, "Yes, you'll be fine. Once the injection is over, you'll be all better."
- "Mommy, don't worry. I can take care of her!"
- Winston said it from the side. His bright eyes were gleaming with determination. The little boy said, "We didn't want Joan to tell you. Did we disrupt your work?"
- "Silly boy, nothing is more important than you two," Freya said.
- She gently patted Winston's head. Looking at her two little darlings, all her fatigue felt insignificant. "Winston, watch over your sister while Mommy goes to pay the bill, okay?" urged Freya.
- "Okay!"
- Winston nodded vigorously and reached out to hold Jasmine's hand.
- Freya smiled warmly and exchanged a glance with Joan. The two of them walked out of the hospital room.
- "Joan, did Jasmine eat something wrong?"
- Freya instinctively thought it was an allergy. Last time, Jasmine had a fever and vomited after eating peanuts, which had scared her terribly.
- Joan shook her head and looked guilty.
- She said, "Fae, it was my fault. I opened the window for ventilation and forgot to close it. Jasmine was playing right by the window and caught a chill, so she got a fever."
- It turned out like this.
- Freya breathed a sigh of relief. As long as it wasn't an allergy, it was fine.
- "Joan, I appreciate you taking care of the kids. Aside from that, it's normal for children to catch a cold and get a fever. I was just worried."
- "I understand, Fae. Don't worry. There will be no peanuts in the house!"
- Joan promised earnestly. She genuinely cared for the kids.
- With Jasmine being okay, a weight lifted off Freya's heart. She felt much lighter. "Alright, Joan, please go back and look after the kids. I'll go pay the bill."
- Freya was checking the payment slip while heading downstairs when she accidentally bumped into someone.
- "Oh, I'm sorry."
- "Freya! Can't you recognise me?"
- Hearing the familiar voice, Freya looked up and recognised the person.
- "Eden, it's you! My schoolmate."
- "Not just a schoolmate, but also a deskmate! Hmph, you forgot me. I'm heartbroken!"
- Eden Jackman took off his mask, revealing his well-defined features, high nose, and sexy, thin lips.
- He was still as handsome as ever. After all, Eden was the school's heartthrob at the time.
- "I didn't forget you. Aren't you the one who forgets things? What brings you to the hospital?" Freya asked curiously. Someone like him should have a private family doctor, right?
- "Oh, I just had some business to attend to. But what about you? Was that child yours?"
- "No, not mine. She's my neighbour's. I've been looking after her for a couple of days, but she got sick, so I brought her to the hospital."
- "I see. Well, you take care. I've got things to do. Let's catch up later." As he spoke, he took Freya's phone and entered a string of numbers. His pocket buzzed a few seconds later.
- "Alright!" Freya could only nod in agreement.
- Watching Eden leave in a hurry, Freya sighed and quickly went to pay the bill.
- As she was about to return to the ward, she saw Bill.
- "What are you doing here?" Freya asked, frustrated. She couldn't believe he'd gone this far, even coming to the hospital. He must be constantly supervising them.
- "Why wouldn't I be here? I'm their grandfather. Can't I visit my grandchildren?"
