Chapter 6 Being In Trouble

  • Omnipresent POV
  • Days Later
  • The news had caused great chaos in the company, to the point that eight days had passed and Alessandro Delacroix was still in the spotlight of the journalists, all thanks to his now ex-wife, who had announced their official separation in a press conference.
  • The press conference had caused the stocks to drop and the company to drastically decline due to the dissolution of the partnership between the Delacroix and Hiraldo families. The sudden turn of events had caught many off guard.
  • However, what truly caught everyone by surprise was Bill Delacroix's return to the CEO position, alongside his son Alessandro. Speculation had been rife that Alessandro's tenure as CEO would come to an end and only rumors of him would remain.
  • Yet, Alessandro managed to convince his father to let him stay in the company and work in the same office to learn from him. The only condition Bill Delacroix had for his son was to undergo the complete fertility treatment. This was something that Alessandro didn't really like accepting. But it was either that or lose the company, and that was something he couldn't do at the moment. Everyone was working hard, especially Alessandro, who was working and going for exams and treatments that the doctors deemed necessary to regain his fertility.
  • When the probability of Alessandro having a child was only thirty percent if he went through all the treatments, it left him with a very low percentage if he chose not to do it. Which was not an option, just like finding another wife.
  • Kim had to interrupt one of their many arguments because Bill demanded to meet new women, and Alessandro refused to even have a casual encounter with any of his conquests because they all asked about his fertility.
  • So, he stopped seeing women altogether, and just the thought of getting married made him feel nauseous when he remembered how his marriage ended. The Hiraldo family not only accepted Yocelyn's request for a divorce but also sent the papers to the company with a lawyer who assured them of the little interest the Hiraldo family had in seeing them.
  • The divorce was signed without any problem. It was like a contract sent from abroad that you scan, sign, and send back, so that the other party signs it and with that, you receive a copy of the united parts of the partnership.
  • But in this case, it was the termination of the marital agreement they had made, and with that, all interest in fraternizing was gone. So, since that argument at the fertility clinic, Alessandro only saw Yocelyn in the articles that featured her interviews.
  • The divorce had been quick, a day after everything became known, the documents arrived, making Alessandro, ‘the infertile Delacroix,’ as they nicknamed him, a single man again. But he didn't care much about what they called him when he was too busy to pay attention to what they said.
  • Exhausted, he left the office where he was alone and passed by Kim's workstation, where there was a thermos of coffee and a compartment of food that Kim had left for him. Since his father started working there, Kim would give them both that, and when Alessandro was alone, he would leave it on his desk because he hated being disturbed while working.
  • Exhausted, he took a sip of coffee and grabbed the food, heading towards his third treatment of the week. One that consisted of an injection that he doubted would do anything, but he had to try.
  • For both his father and himself, it was a necessary step. Alessandro Delacroix arrived at the clinic, and while receiving the treatment, a doctor knocked on the door of the consultation room and, after hearing the approval from his doctor, entered.
  • "Doctor Silva, we inspected the cold room and found several sperm samples that have been damaged. I'm here to discuss disposal options with you."
  • "Is there no more space to store more sperm?"
  • "There isn't. But the sperm I'm talking about has been here for over ten years, and honestly, I doubt anyone will come to retrieve it."
  • “The cryopreservation of semen can last for more than twenty years. So, don't use that excuse to discard valuable samples for their owners. Instead, go to administration and inform them that there are no more freezers to store the samples," the doctor scolds him as he finishes with Alessandro.
  • "Is that true?" Alessandro asks, his mind racing with the possibilities unfolding before him.
  • "What do you mean?"
  • "When I was fifteen, I froze one or two sperm samples for entertainment. My friends did it as if it were a lifeboat in case something happened and they couldn't have children, or if they died and wanted to leave offspring. So, I..."
  • "Do you know if it's still being preserved? If it's in good condition, you could use it on a woman to conceive your child."
  • "Can that really be done?"
  • "If the sample is in good condition, there's no problem. Do you know where the sample is?"
  • "Yes, they deduct money from me every year to preserve it. I can go tomorrow morning and find out about it."
  • "If you have it, you just need to find a woman who will rent her womb or a friend who wants to help you become a father. The important thing is to have the sperm sample and the ovary that will be fertilized. After that, we just have to wait for a pregnancy to occur."
  • "Of course, I'll go get my sperm sample tomorrow and find the girl who will help me with it. When I have both, I'll come to start the procedure," says Alessandro, rising from his seat and bidding farewell to the doctor before leaving.
  • "Why didn't I think of this before? I could have avoided so many injections and my father's insistence," Alessandro muses to himself mentally.
  • Immediately, he goes to his apartment and contacts every woman who values money highly, proposing to rent her womb and fulfill his family's demand for an heir.
  • It took him two hours until he found the perfect girl: she had fair skin and red hair, just as he liked, and best of all, she was in need of money due to her low income. She was the perfect woman.
  • The night passed too slowly for Alessandro, and by the time he wanted it to be six in the morning, he had already gone to pick up the girl, and together they headed to the hospital where his sample was located.
  • There, he was attended by a gynecologist who immediately went to look for his sperm sample, only to be surprised not to find it.
  • "Who classified the sperm last time?" the gynecologist asks the responsible area.
  • "It was Brown," says the girl, rushing off to find him.
  • Upon questioning, Brown couldn't remember, and they had to resort to the security camera footage, which revealed his poor classification skills, leading to Alessandro Delacroix's sample ending up in the waste area.
  • As Alessandro grew impatient, the gynecologist felt like burying herself alive upon learning that the sperm sample had been discarded as trash.
  • "Please, tell me you found it strange and didn't throw it away," the doctor pleads with Lucia Parker, Kim's best friend.
  • "I'm sorry, doctor. But I followed the classification, and that's why I discarded them," Lucia responds.
  • "What are we going to do now that the owner came with his girlfriend to be inseminated? I doubt the hospital will come out unscathed if they find out that Alessandro Delacroix's frozen sperm was thrown away due to a labeling error," the doctor says nervously.
  • Alessandro, who had left the office due to the delay, stopped in his tracks upon hearing the conversation.
  • "What did you do with my sample?!" Alessandro yells angrily, scaring everyone.
  • It's confirmed, they're in serious trouble.
