Chapter 4 The Ice Queen Rules

  • In the months following Damien’s funeral, Elara Voss did not mourn.
  • She conquered.
  • From the top floor of Voss Tower, she ruled the family empire with ruthless efficiency. Board meetings that once dragged on for hours now ended in minutes. Competitors who dared challenge her found their contracts suddenly voided, their secrets exposed, and their businesses crumbling within weeks. She became known in elite circles simply as the Ice Queen.
  • She attended every meeting in immaculate black attire, voice calm and cutting. No emotion. No hesitation. When a longtime partner tried to negotiate better terms, citing her “recent loss,” Elara stared at him until he faltered.
  • “Loss is weakness,” she said coldly. “Do not mistake my grief for an opening.”
  • The man signed the revised contract within minutes.
  • Elara didn’t care if she got hurt in the process. She pushed herself through sleepless nights, ignored the toll on her body, and made decisions that cut deep into her own alliances. Pain was irrelevant. Only results mattered.
  • Whispers followed her everywhere.
  • “She’s more dangerous now than her grandmother ever was.”
  • “No heart left. Just ice and ambition.”
  • “Damien’s death didn’t break her — it sharpened her into a weapon.”
  • Elara heard every word. She welcomed them. Fear was more useful than sympathy.
  • One evening, her grandmother finally confronted her in the boardroom after a particularly brutal takeover.
  • “You’ve gone too far, Elara,” Victorine said, voice tight with rare concern. “This isn’t strength anymore. It’s emptiness. I’m sending you away — to your father’s country. To Elias Vale. Perhaps there you can remember what it means to be human.”
  • Elara turned from the window, expression unreadable. “If that is your order.”
  • She agreed not because she wanted warmth, but because the ghosts in this city were becoming too loud. A change of location might give her space to investigate Damien’s death more freely.
  • As she prepared for exile, Elara took one last look at the empire she had bent to her will. The Ice Queen had risen.
  • And she would return even stronger.
