Chapter 95 The Silent Streets

  • The second day of calm arrived under a dim, iron sky. The Blizzard had not returned—yet—but the air carried its promise. Every sound was dulled beneath the weight of the snow, and every breath came with a sting. The city stood silent, its streets carved into white canyons by wind and time.
  • Lucy tightened the strap of her thermal coat as she and Darren loaded the vehicle. Darren’s right hand was still wrapped in heated fabric, the skin beneath pale and raw from frostbite. He flexed his fingers once, grimacing but saying nothing.
  • “You should rest that,” Lucy murmured, glancing at him.
