  • The wind shrieked against the windows.
  • Lucy sat by the hearth, watching the flames battle the frigid air seeping in through every crack and seam of the house. It was colder tonight — much colder. The kind of cold that bit through wool and wood, that made glass frost over from within. A kettle of water she’d left outside earlier had turned to ice in minutes, the surface cracking like glass.
