Chapter 9 The Dominant Contract

  • In the top-floor CEO office.
  • Ava surveyed the spacious office, which was spotless and immaculate, as if newly furnished.
  • The office could be described as luxurious with Zesten's style of vintage floor-to-ceiling curtains, a high-hanging crystal chandelier, and a clean, tidy desk stacked with files!
  • Damon walked straight to the black leather office chair and sat down there. He possessed the aura of a long-time ruler.
  • Despite her poor impression of the man, Ava had to admit he was impeccable in every other aspect except his personality.
  • Just then, there was a knock on the door.
  • "Come in!" Damon's deep, magnetic voice resonated.
  • A well-dressed, professional woman with a graceful figure walked in slowly.
  • "Mr. Lindon, here is the contract you requested." Shana Garza handled the document respectfully.
  • "Give it to her," Damon said indifferently.
  • Only then did Shana notice Ava sitting on the sofa. Initially feeling a bit jealous, she wondered what kind of woman was so lucky to bear his boss's child.
  • When she saw Ava up close, she was stunned for a moment before regaining her composure.
  • This woman had nothing special apart from her innocent looks.
  • She probably used underhanded means to climb into his boss's bed, which explained why he would draft such an unfair contract.
  • Shana cast a disdainful glance at Ava. Then, she slowly walked over, coldly placing the contract on the table. After that, she walked out in her ten-centimetre-high heels.
  • Ava couldn't help but inwardly mock. It seems like the employees reflect the boss—all snobbish and looking down on me.
  • Damon observed Ava's expressive face and coldly said, "Sign it."
  • Ava suspiciously picked up the contract and quickly skimmed through its terms. Finally, she spoke slowly, "Let me think about it first." Then she placed the contract back on the table.
  • The contract specified that during Aster's care, she must be on call and show up even in the middle of the night.
  • Additionally, she couldn't date to avoid influencing Aster negatively.
  • The last clause stated that she could never recognise Aster as her child.
  • She accepted the second and last clauses since she didn't plan on dating and didn't expect to recognise Aster as her child. As long as she could see and care for him every day, she was satisfied.
  • However, the first clause was difficult. If she agreed, what about Zeke? He was also a young child and needed care.
  • Damon, who sat in the black swivel chair, suddenly stood up. He had assumed Ava cared for Aster because she was his biological mother.
  • When she seemed hesitant over a few simple demands, he decided there was no need for her to see Aster.
  • "If that's the case, you don't need to see Aster anymore." Damon stared at Ava, who looked troubled.
  • Just as Ava was about to speak, her phone rang. She picked it up, and Damon approached at the same time.
  • When Damon saw the caller ID 'Dear' on her phone screen, his anger surged. He clenched his fist, and his expression was grim.
  • No wonder she wouldn't sign.
  • It turned out she had a lover, and Aster meant less to her than another man.
  • Ava turned around and met Damon's blazing eyes. She instantly hung up the call in a panic.
  • To Damon, her reaction confirmed her guilt.
  • Just as Damon was about to tear up the contract, Ava swiftly grabbed it and quickly said, "I accept!"
  • She could always find a nanny later. After all, Zeke stayed with her every day.
  • But Aster, she owed him too much.
  • "Are you agreeing to let me see our son?" Ava asked uncertainly.
  • Why would he give me such a wonderful opportunity for no reason?
  • "Ava, he's my son, not yours. Don't have any delusions!" Damon was furious; his anger was palpable in every word.
  • "Don't worry, I know my place," Ava murmured as she met Damon's intimidating gaze.
  • With that, Ava opened her handbag and looked for a pen to sign the contract.
  • Damon watched as she laid out the contents of her bag on the table. His eyes land on a transparent cosmetic bottle filled with suspicious foam liquid, causing him to frown.
  • Pepper spray?
  • Damon's icy face cracked instantly. Was this meant for me?
  • This woman is so wary of me, as if she had been the one who was wronged.
  • "Sign the contract and get out," Damon said, feeling he had vented five years of anger today.
  • Before he lost control and did something drastic, he wanted her out. Otherwise, he might strangle her.
  • Ava ignored his fury. She picked up the pen and signed her name on the contract.
  • Her handwriting was strong, elegant, and beautifully penned.
  • Damon glanced at the signature. His eyes showed a hint of surprise.
  • Ava packed her bag and quickly left the office.
  • She had been away for too long and was worried about Zeke.
  • Watching Ava's retreating figure, Damon's lips curled into a sinister smile.
  • Ava, your good days are numbered!
  • ...
  • Springhill.
  • In a simple, modest apartment.
  • Zeke lay on the bed, bored. He checked his smart watch and looked outside; it was already dark.
  • He frowned. Mom had been out all afternoon. Why hasn't she come home yet?
  • Could she be in danger?
  • Zeke suddenly sat up from the bed. He was worried and decided to check on Ava.
  • He activated the tracking system on his mom's phone with a stern expression.
  • Seeing her location at Lindon Group, he opened his computer and quickly hacked in. Soon, the screen will display Lindon Group's data.
  • Damon Lindon!
  • He stroked his chin while studying the introduction on the screen.
  • Wow! So, this man is a formidable and ruthless top-tier tycoon!
  • He has a high net worth! Someone once tried to bribe Zeke to hack Damon's computer and steal business secrets.
  • However, Ava often told him. "Humans should be kind to each other and always protect each other well."
  • Though he didn't fully understand, Zeke knew he had to follow his mother's wish to be a good person.
  • Therefore, he refused the high-paying offer.
  • Zeke browsed to the end. He shook his head in disappointment and muttered, "Why isn't a single photo of him here?"
