Chapter 11 Do You Want to See Your Mommy?
- George felt incredibly triumphant at this moment. He strode to the living room with his head held high, ready to celebrate with a feast.
- Damon was at a loss for words.
- Is this man really my father?
- After George left, Damon pondered over his son's words and lost himself in thought.
- Recalling the scene at the airport this morning, his eyes widened in realization. Could it be Silvia?
- Damon stormed into the living room and confronted Silvia. "Did you say something to Aster?" he demanded.
- After Damon had figured it out, Silvia guiltily coughed a few times. She darted her eyes and tried to think of an excuse.
- Her reaction was no escape from Damon's sharp eyes. He grabbed her wrist and said coldly, "Tell me the truth, or I'll send you back to oversea!"
- Hearing the commotion, Lane and George rushed over. Upon hearing the situation, they urged their daughter. "Silvia, tell him quickly!"
- Silvia met her brother's intimidating gaze. She had finally returned after much difficulty; she didn't want to be sent back again. Therefore, she reluctantly confessed.
- "I accidentally let it slip that I saw Ava at the airport."
- After speaking, she hung her head like a child who had done something wrong, not daring to meet her brother's eyes.
- "Boom!" Damon felt as if his head was going to explode. He glared at Silvia and thought he should have sent her back to the Lindon estate.
- No wonder Aster called him a liar. It seemed his perfect father image was about to be shattered in his son's heart.
- He rubbed his temples and found the situation tricky.
- Lane realised what was happening. She scolded Silvia, "Do you even think before you speak?"
- "I ... I didn't mean to," Silvia mumbled powerlessly. She was truly regretful for her slip-up.
- He didn't blame his daughter, but squinted his eyes and asked, surprised, "Are you saying Ava is still alive?"
- At this moment, Lane realised that she had been focusing on reprimanding Silva without considering the implications of her words.
- She too looked at her daughter in shock, and when she saw her daughter lower her head, they both turned their gaze to Damon.
- Lane questioned, "Is it true? Is Ava alive?"
- Reluctantly, Damon nodded. They would find out eventually, and he had no intention of hiding it.
- "That's wonderful! Let's bring her back immediately. This way, Aster's wish can come true, and our family will be complete again!" Lane exclaimed, not noticing her son's darkening expression.
- "Do you ever think before you speak? What about Tyne? She's Damon's fiancée!" George scolded and rolled his eyes at Lane.
- "Oh! I got too excited and forgot about that," Lane said, frustratedly tapping her forehead.
- Everyone had lost their appetite for dinner. Damon didn't care about Ava; he only cared about what his son thought of him.
- The elders, on the other hand, were pondering the dilemma between Ava and Tyne.
- Lane was filled with worry. She recalled how Ava had taken such good care of them during her two years of marriage to Damon, and she found the situation challenging to deal with.
- She had initially looked down on Ava's background, but her kindness and understanding had won her over.
- Gradually, they accepted Ava as a daughter-in-law, only to lose her to childbirth.
- Lane felt guilty about this for years. They believed that if she and George hadn't been abroad trying to relieve their grief over Mabel's passing, they might have seen Ava one last time.
- Learning this from Damon only added to her remorse.
- If Ava wanted to come back, she would support her, as she was Aster's biological mother.
- George, however, favoured Tyne. Her family background matched theirs, and her presence benefited the Lindon Group.
- Breaking off the engagement with Tyne would offend her family and make a powerful enemy for his son.
- ...
- "Growl!" A loud growl broke the tense silence.
- Silvia touched her stomach and smiled awkwardly. She was starving.
- "Hey! Let's eat! No matter what, we need energy to think," Lane said.
- "I'll give it a try to get Aster down here," Lane said, heading upstairs.
- "I'll go," Damon said, getting up and heading upstairs.
- Standing at the door, Damon knocked gently but received no response. He then opened the door directly.
- He saw the little guy bent over the desk, seemingly writing something. Damon tiptoed closer.
- Aster was intently drawing a picture. The drawing featured an elegant woman, but her face was blank. Beside her, the word 'Mom' was written in large letters, which deeply pained Damon.
- "Aster, do you want to see your mommy?" Damon blurted it out without knowing why.
- When he heard this, the little boy turned around. His small frame looked particularly lonely and stubborn. He looked into Damon's eyes and solemnly nodded.
- Damon's lips pressed into a thin line. Luckily, he hadn't sent Ava to the nightclub. Knowing Aster's strong sense of justice, if he found out Damon had bullied his mommy, he would probably never forgive him.
- However—
- The reason Aster missed his mommy so much was ultimately Damon's fault. If he had told him that Ava was dead from the beginning, maybe Aster would have already moved on from the pain.
- Damon seriously suspected that Ava had cast some spell on their son; otherwise, why would he be so obsessed with her?
- Playing with Legos, drawing pictures—all he ever talked about was his mother.
- Over the years, Aster never got bored of mentioning her, and Damon was bored of hearing it.
- When he saw the hopeful look in his son's eyes, he couldn't bear it and said, "Tomorrow, a lady will come to take care of you. If you can get along with her, Daddy will agree to let you see your mom."
- "Really?" Aster looked at his cunning father and was unsure whether to believe him.
- "Of course it's true. A gentleman's word is his bond."
- Damon replied, lifting Aster and heading downstairs.
- ...
- Springhill Residence.
- Back home, Ava hugged Zeke tightly. She felt guilty and said, "I'm sorry, sweetheart. Mommy was holding up and came back late."
- Zeke was very understanding and mature beyond his years. He patted her back and comforted her. "It's okay, Mommy. I can take care of myself now."
- They had relied on each other for years, and he understood her struggles.
- He had studied hard, eager to grow up and protect her.
- Ava shared her good news with Zeke. She said, "Mommy had found a new job. I start tomorrow."
