• Chloe peeped behind the window blind as soon as she heard Ethan drive in. She watched him step out of the car and approach the door. She returned to the couch and sat down.
• Ethan went into the house and spoke as soon as he saw Chloe still seated there on the couch; he had left her. “Babe, I’m sorry. It was very important, so I had to go,” he muttered in a pleading tone as he approached the indifference-looking Chloe, who stared at him blankly. Emotion was void in her eyes.
• Ethan noticed the look in her eyes, and he instantly knew something was wrong. He knew she would be annoyed, so he left her behind. "Babe, it's my client; an emergency occurred, and she needed my help," Ethan added, dispersing the already tense living room.
