Chapter 3 One More Surprise

  • Chapter 3
  • one more surprise
  • Narrated by Alexander
  • I arrive at Mr. Thompson with my parents, they've been friends for many, many years, but I never got to meet him.
  • They say he is a great lord, very rich, very conservative.
  • I know well the purpose of this party, I knew that this day would come, sooner or later.
  • It is my destiny, and as I am a man who fulfills my duties, I will fulfill this one too, of course.
  • I'm lost in my thoughts, when I see some legs on top of an apple tree, they are perfect by the way. But what the hell is that crazy girl doing up in a tree, honestly.
  • Alex: -What are you doing there hanging like a monkey? - I say astonished.
  • She falls and hits her tail on the floor and her legs are almost all exposed, I pick up the blessed apple that fell along with her, and covertly hold back a laugh.
  • She stands up as fast as an arrow and straightens her dress and hair.
  • Amy: -Was it necessary to scare me that way? - she says irritated.
  • And she snatches the apple out of my hands brutally.
  • Alex: -I knew I was going to be scared - I say - I was hanging there.
  • Amy: -And he called me a monkey - she says - how impolite.
  • I look at her sideways.
  • Alex: -Lack of manners has the girl-I say already angry-where she has seen herself, walking around hanging in the trees!
  • Amy: -You are very rude that yes-that said, she hurriedly walks away, barefoot, with her sandals in her hand.
  • I roll my eyes, but how crazy.
  • But a pretty crazy girl, perfect legs, blonde, with beautiful green eyes, angel face… ahhh, angel face but with a devil's edge, crazy me huh.
  • Already inside the party I have another surprise, the daughter of my parents' friend is that crazy, oh how lucky I was, I didn't need anything else.
  • Alex: -I like it Amy - I say to be polite. I extend my hand to greet her properly, but she doesn't miss the opportunity to annoy me.
  • Amy: -Don't bother to say hello to a monkey.
  • And go away leaving me there like a fool. This is going to be really difficult.
  • Her father sees his daughter walk away in amazement, looks at my parents who are equally astonished, I mutter some shit under my breath, I'm pissed off.
  • George breaks the awkward silence that hangs over the four of us.
  • George: -I… I don't know what got into her! - he apologized.
  • Alex: -I know - I say - we had already met outside.
  • In a few words I tell you what happened outside, near the apple tree.
  • My father slaps me on the back of the head.
  • James: -You really are an imbecile - he scolds me - where have you ever seen him, talking like that to a young woman.
  • Alex: -Oh dad, that hurt - I complain as I put my hand on the back of my head.
  • The contract …
  • Narrated by Amy
  • I walk back into the library and burst out laughing.
  • His face when I gave him that answer was hilarious, he turned all colors.
  • Amy: -Hahaha, well made for learning - I say out loud.
  • I'm too much fun, at least the party served to have fun at the expense of that idiot kkk.
  • I sit still laughing and decide I'm not going back to that stupid party.
  • This is where you are fine, alone, with the fireplace crackling and warm.
  • I've been sitting there for a good 10 minutes reading my book when the door opens. Enter my father and the Harrisons with their son's rudeness right behind them.
  • Oh my God, I don't even have rest here.
  • George: -I'm glad you're here - my father exclaims as he enters - I was going to send for you.
  • Amy: -I can't even have peace here - I mumble softly.
  • George: -What did you say? - my father asks, looking through some papers on the desk.
  • Amy: -Nothing dad, nothing - I sigh loudly showing my annoyance - what do you want from me after all.
  • I look sideways at that mischievous Harrison son.
  • James: -Alexander! - calls James, his father - we are waiting! - he says impatiently.
  • He approaches me very reluctantly.
  • I remain seated, which makes me lift my head to face him.
  • Alex: -Please accept my sincere apologies for having offended you in any way - he apologized haughtily.
  • I cross my arms, I won't make it easy for him.
  • Amy: -Is that sincere or is it because they told you to - I look him right in the eyes challenging him.
  • Alex: -A little of both - he admits looking to the side
  • "Um, at least it's sincere" - I think.
  • Amy: -What if I don't accept your apology? - pin me.
  • Alexander turns red with rage.
  • George: -Amy - my father scolds - but what's the matter with you, are these ways of treating guests?
  • Amy:-He also had no manners when he called me names in the garden-I say upset.
  • Alex: -How funny, if I remember correctly, it also offended me, and I still haven't heard her apologize for that - he attacks.
  • -Alexander!!! - their parents scolded in unison. - but what ways are these??
  • Alexander huffed and walked to a corner of the library with his arms crossed.
  • After a brief silence, he speaks.
  • Alex: -Can I go back to the party? he asks unexpectedly.
  • -NO - replied his parents and my father at the same time.
  • I find this very strange. But what's going on here anyway?
  • Amy: -But what's going on anyway? - I ask suspiciously.
  • George: -Well - says my father, walking behind his desk, opens one of the drawers that is always locked and takes out a document.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Harrison smiled.
  • And I, every time I find this weirder.
  • George: -I suggest that everyone sit down - continues my father.
  • After everyone is seated, he starts talking again.
  • George: -As we all know here, we are descendants of Dukes, Counts and Viscounts-he says very proudly.
  • I roll my eyes.
  • "How boring" - I think.
  • George: -And we have the ancient traditions of our ancestors very ingrained in us, it's in the blood, royal blood - he smiles to himself.
  • My father is so puffed up with pride, I have a feeling he's going to burst at any moment.
  • I laugh at my thought and the father immediately looks at me furiously.
  • George: -Well - he cleared his throat - so it is not surprising that we continue to fulfill the traditions, and for that we have this very important document - he raises the sheet in the air - that was signed the night my dear wife and your mother left us - turns to me and that makes me shiver, my mouth is suddenly dry and I have a bad feeling about this whole conversation.
  • Amy: -And what document is this? - I ask in fear.
