Chapter 25 A Conversation That Cornered Cecilia Ii

  • Lunch with Evan was nothing new for Cecilia. But she never imagined that today she’d have to share a meal with Evan, his father, and—most of all—his uncle. Her mind suddenly went blank, she had no idea how to act.
  • Cecilia felt trapped, surrounded by three men she knew well, but with whom she shared tangled, complicated relationships. If she had a choice, she would have opted to work overtime, finishing stacks of paperwork, rather than being stuck at this table with Evan, Edgar, and—especially—Charles.
  • Edgar and Charles were chatting away, their conversation filled with the warmth of brothers long separated. Meanwhile, Cecilia and Evan were silent, for obvious reasons. Particularly Evan, who was still panicking after nearly getting caught alone with Bertha. Even if it wasn’t exactly how Cecilia imagined, it was bad enough. Especially since Evan was desperately trying to win her back.
