• The silence that had settled over the room was finally broken by the ringing of Evan’s phone in his jacket pocket. He hurriedly reached in, pulled out his phone, and glanced at the screen. An incoming call. He quickly turned away, stepping toward a far corner.
• “Yes? Okay, I’ll be right there,” he said hastily. Then he turned back to face Charles and Cecilia. “Uncle, that was my assistant. Something urgent just came up at work. Sorry, I have to get back to my office right away.”
• Evan excused himself in a rush, secretly feeling grateful for the timely call. He shot a quick glance at Cecilia. “Babe, I’m heading back to my office. I love you,” he said, then strode out of the room without waiting for her to respond.
