A guy and a girl alone, and you’re crying—if someone walks in, they’ll think I did something to you. I won’t be able to explain a damn thing.”
• “Don’t. I’ll do it myself.” Tilly took the tissues from Ben and wiped her own tears. She sat down at the table, even turning her back to him on purpose. Her whole posture screamed, I’m mad. Don’t talk to me.
• “What the… what’s going on here? You were apologizing to me a minute ago. How did it flip into me apologizing to you?” Ben stared at Tilly’s sulking face, torn between a laugh and a sigh. The whole thing felt absurdly dramatic.
