Chapter 15 Another Beautiful Woman

  • "I can tell." Ben nodded.
  • "You should go to bed. I can sleep in this bed with her. You don't have to worry about us." After seeing how hard it had been for her, he felt sorry for her.
  • "Oh, no. I–"
  • "There's nothing you can do by sitting here, and you'd be better off taking a good rest. Who will take care of her if you don't get enough rest?"
  • "I'm sorry for giving you so much trouble."
  • "No, I'm the one who's sorry about losing your ring."
  • "So be it. Perhaps it's time for me to let it go. Sorry for the additional effort again. I'll be sleeping in the next room, and you can call the nanny or me if you need anything." With that, she walked to the next room. The ward was like a suite that had multiple rooms.
  • With Annie in his arms, he lay down in bed. She was cuddled warmly in his embrace, making him feel as though he really was her father. It was a rather peculiar feeling.
  • The following day, he told her he had to go to work after she woke up. When she finally agreed, he prepared to leave. Just then, Vincy walked into the room, holding her handbag.
  • "Why aren't you letting me know you're leaving soon?"
  • "You slept late last night, so I didn't want to disturb your sleep."
  • "Let's go. I'll send you back."
  • "No, that's fine. You should rest more; I'll just take the public bus back."
  • "I still need to work anyway." With that, she walked into the elevator with him.
  • "You're still working?"
  • "Yeah, and I have a lot of things to settle at work. She's usually with the nanny during the day."
  • It was only then that he realized that she had a job. Fair enough. Otherwise, from where does she get all the money? She's a single mom.
  • "Let's go. I'll send you back," she told him after walking out of the elevator.
  • "It's fine. You still have to go to work, and it's peak hour right now. The traffic will be bad, so you will definitely be late if you send me back first. On top of that, I'm sure that my place is not on the same route as your office. I'll take the bus or the train back. Bye!" He waved and walked out of the hospital.
  • Then, he stopped by a breakfast stall before heading back to his place to sleep. He fell into a deep slumber as soon as his head hit the pillow. After all, he was utterly exhausted.
  • Not long after he left the hospital, a young woman walked out, followed by her mother.
  • "Tilly, listen to me. The doctor said you should stay in the hospital for a few more days so they can check on you."
  • "Oh, mom, there's nothing to check. I know my own body – I'm fine. See how healthy I am now!"
  • "No, the doctor said they want to do more checkups on you. Can you stay in the hospital for another two days?"
  • "I don't want to stay there any longer! I'm going to die of boredom there. Mom, I am fine."
  • "Where are you going now, then? Aren't you coming home?"
  • "Mom, you can go back first. I still have something else to do."
  • "What are you up to again? After this huge incident, your dad will be furious if you go out again."
  • "Mom, I'm already in my twenties – I'm already an adult. Can you stop treating me like a child and give me freedom?"
  • "Oh, Tilly, your dad will be so furious," her mother sighed in exasperation.
  • The young woman was Tilly Glamshaw, whom Ben saved during the fire the other day.
  • After coming out of the hospital, she immediately went to the fire brigade department.
  • "Hello, sir. Can you tell me who saved me the other time? What is his name, and what does he do?"
  • Even though she pestered them for more information, she did not get anything useful. After all, even the firefighters did not know who saved her from the fire. They merely knew that a man had saved her and left after that.
  • Then, Tilly went back to the hospital to speak to the doctor and nurse who administered first aid that day, but she did not get an answer from them either. Finally, she went to the police station and requested for them to show her the surveillance tape from that day, using her beauty as she pestered them non-stop. Finally, they relented.
  • At half past five in the afternoon, Ben cycled slowly to the street behind his university with a cigarette in his mouth to start his stall. He arrived at his stall at six and began preparing to start the business. This was his daily routine for this job.
  • Just as he opened the booth, while he was still preparing, he found a person standing right in front of him.
  • "Hi, the business hasn't started yet. You need to wait for another ten minutes," he said while he was making the preparations.
  • "It's okay. I can wait." Suddenly, he heard the enchanting voice of a young woman.
  • Attracted by her voice, he quickly raised his head and saw a young woman in her mid-twenties smiling at him. His eyes immediately lit up when he saw her. She had an impeccably sculpted face and a slender, perfect figure. If Vincy was a mature rose, this young woman was a pure lily. They exuded different airs, but they were equally beautiful. This was the second most beautiful woman Ben had met in London City, the first being Vincy.
  • He was stunned by her smile that seemed to carry the spring breeze. After a few seconds, he returned to his senses. "What would you like?"
  • "You're… the owner of this barbeque skewer stall?" she asked.
  • He felt slightly awkward upon hearing her question. Pointing at his banner with a smile, he said, "I don't know how to reply to your question. Have you seen this? It says, ' Ben's Skewers, Passed Down from Ancestors, Perfectly Grilled. Refund if It Doesn't Taste Nice'."
  • "It's just a barbeque skewer stall. But the skills are passed down by your ancestors?" She found the headings quite amusing.
  • "Of course. My grandfather was a shepherd."
  • "How is a shepherd related to skewers?" she asked innocently.
  • "Where does the mutton come from, then? That's how my lamb skewers are made. Isn't this a skill passed down from my ancestors?" he teased the young woman with a chuckle as he prepared the skewers. This was a part of his daily life; he took pleasure in joking around with the girls from university, and he was already quite familiar with many of them.
  • "Hahaha! You are so funny!" The young woman laughed out loud.
