Chapter 6 Memories Of The Past
- ASHER
- The rest I so much wanted wasn’t going to come anytime soon. As I drove away from Dad’s house, I tried to push Daphne out of my mind. It was easy for her to act like nothing was wrong because she was the one who did the leaving seven years ago. For the people who were left behind—Dad, Quinn, and I—we had to get used to her not being around.
- She’d left home, leaving a simple letter behind, saying that she wanted to explore life on her own.
- How could I ever forget the early days of her leaving when all Dad would do was sit by the window, waiting for Daphne to walk through the gates? It was impossible because I knew the reason why Daphne left. Me.
- “I’m in love with you, Daphne.” Seven years ago, the confession slipped out of me before I could stop it. And when Daphne had looked up at me with those stunning brown doe eyes, I couldn’t take it back. So, I continued. “I love you. You’re all I dream of at night, and when I get up in the morning, every part of you consumes me.”
- How could I forget the way her eyes widened in shock as she shoved me away. “You-You’re my uncle, Ash. You ca-can’t…”
- We weren’t related by blood. I wanted to tell those words to Daphne, but before I could, she was out of the room. Three days later, Daphne left home. And now, after seven years, she was back. In that second I saw her again, I was reminded of all those feelings I’d shoved away to the back of my mind permanently. Feelings that weren’t allowed to see the light of day ever again. Not after Mila.
- Mila, the woman I met after Daphne left. Mila, a woman I loved, trusted, and gave my heart to. I learned the hard way just how big of a mistake that was. It started with the small things. The arguments that would lead to Mila crying and storming out of the house. Then we would make up only for the cycle to repeat itself all over.
- The first time Mila tried to commit suicide was after I suggested a break so that the two of us would figure out if we were right for each other. Finding her lifeless, unconscious in her room with pills scattered on the floor next to a bottle of aspirin, was an image that was forever ingrained in my mind.
- “Good thing you got there when you did, or she would have died,” was what the paramedics said after.
- It took two years of that before Mila finally broke up with me after she’d totally crushed my spirit. Two years of her threatening to kill herself if I ever left her; two years until all that remained of me was the skeleton of who I used to be.
- When Mila finally freed me—she left without a word, kinda like Daph—the only thing that kept me going and made me not fall into despair was work.
- Just seeing Daphne briefly had been enough to make my heart jump in my chest, and I was smart to know that staying around her would be the most dangerous thing I could ever do. It was a good thing I moved out of home years back. The only time I went there was when Dad called me over.
- “Fuck this.”
- Why was Daphne back? In that short time, she’d managed to mess with my head and disrupt my system. Did something happen? As I was thinking, I remembered the man and woman I saw kissing in front of the house. Friends of Daphne or was there something more? Knowing how much pride Daphne had; she wouldn’t return home unless she really had to.
- Something definitely happened. But it wasn’t my business, so I wasn’t going to think about it. My frustration was through the roof. There was only one thing that could fix it. At the next intersection, rather than turn on the road that led to my apartment, I took another route.
- “Are you home?”
- Through the speaker of my car, a sultry voice responded, “I am. Are you coming over right now?”
- “Hmm.”
- Ten minutes later, my cock was buried in the wet folds of a woman’s pussy, thrusting in and out quickly. Agatha was her name. Our relationship was purely physical, something we both agreed on. There were to be no feelings involved, and we would only contact for one reason only.
- “Mmmh.” Agatha’s moan filled the space of her bedroom as she backed up her ass repeatedly against me.
- Holding on to Agatha’s soft waist, I took my dick out of her before turning her over so that she was facing me. A groan escaped my lips and my cock jumped even more in excitement as I took in the woman under me. Instead of Agatha’s blue eyes, a pair of brown eyes stared back at me. Daphne.
- Even though I knew she wasn’t there, I couldn’t keep myself from imagining her again as I thrust into Agatha. Only seconds later, I stiffened as every part of my body worked together as my release came.
- “That was the most excited I’ve ever seen you. Did you close a deal or something?”
- As I slipped into my clothes which had been strewn on the ground, I glanced over at Agatha who had just spoken. She lay on her bed naked, not bothering to cover herself off. Buttoning my jeans, I turned my face away from her without a word and walked out of the room.
- Agatha always tried to make small talk with me, but I wasn’t interested in that. Upon getting back to my car, the first thing I did was check my phone to make sure no important messages had come in while I was doing my business.
- Swiping up on my device, I rapidly went through the messages as my brain internally sorted the messages which were super important and those which were not. Just as I was about to put my phone away, I felt a jolt go up my spine, sending shivers through my body. There was a message from an unknown number, but it was the content that made me react that way.
- {Babe, this is Mila. Tried to contact you with my other number, but you seemed to have blocked me. I miss you. I’m coming home soon.}
