• I'm standing in the hallway, my brothers beside me, when we hear Amanda's voice coming from the herb chambers. She's speaking in hushed tones, but we can make out what she's saying. My brothers and I exchange a curious glance, wondering who she's talking to and what she's discussing.
• As we creep closer, trying not to make a sound, Amanda's words become clearer. "Yes, I understand," she says. "You'll take care of it after the baby is born?"
