Chapter 10 Make Them Wish They Were Dead

  • "My little princess! You're finally here!" When Violet arrived at Silverfilm, her supervisor was already waiting at the entrance.
  • He hurriedly grabbed her by the arm. "We have a big job coming up. Natalie Reed, the second female lead of the drama Greenhills, has personally appointed you as her martial arts stunt woman! Moreover, the price she offered is three times higher than what you usually earn as a martial arts stuntman!"
  • After arriving on the set, Violet immediately had her makeup done and was strapped with the necessary wires required for filming.
  • Even though all the preparations had been completed, the director kept delaying and refused to start filming for some reason.
  • The martial arts stuntman working with Violet eventually burst out angrily, "What are we waiting for?"
  • "We are waiting for Natalie Reed. Unfortunately, Miss Reed insisted on supervising the scenes herself, lest the martial arts stuntwoman fail to bring out the emotions she wants." After saying that, the assistant director couldn't help sighing in amazement. "Miss Reed is such a beautiful and professional actress! You will never match up to her in your entire lifetime!"
  • Violet nearly laughed when she heard those words.
  • Dedicated?
  • In the five years since Natalie made her debut, Violet was the one who carefully guided and polished her skills after thoroughly memorizing and understanding every angle of the script. That was the only reason she had succeeded in all her dramas since her debut.
  • Naturally, Violet had also seen the script for the drama Greenhills.
  • In this drama, Natalie's character suffered many defeats in the later stages. To suffer loss meant to suffer a beating.
  • Hence, the actual reason Natalie wanted to supervise the film shooting herself was that she wanted to watch Violet getting beaten up with her own eyes.
  • Speaking of which, it was quite funny. When Violet caught her boyfriend being intimate with Natalie, she neither lashed out at them nor cursed at them. On the contrary, she had fled the scene in tears.
  • On the other hand, Natalie had gone to such lengths just to watch her getting beaten up. It almost seemed as though she were the cheating mistress instead.
  • Not long afterward, Natalie finally arrived.
  • She sat on a chair with her legs crossed over her knees. "My standards are stringent. I will keep requesting the martial arts stuntwoman to the scenes over and over again until I am satisfied with her performance."
  • The assistant director was very eager to flatter her. "You truly are dedicated to your work! Hey, stuntwoman! Did you hear that? You better perform at your very best! It's an honor for you to be chosen as Miss Reed's stuntwoman!"
  • Violet ignored them.
  • The filming soon began.
  • Violet and the martial artist stuntman had been partners for many years. The series of fake action moves that they practiced flowed smoothly and naturally during the filming process.
  • The assistant director repeatedly praised their performance. "The skills of that martial arts stuntwoman are outstanding. Miss Reed, you have a great discerning eye!"
  • However, Natalie's expression turned cold. "I am not satisfied with their movements. Fake movements are fake, after all. Make them fight for real."
  • The assistant director was stunned. Fight for real? That could lead to casualties!
  • "I will pay for the medical fees." Then, she picked up a circular paper fan and leisurely fanned herself. "I am simply carrying out my responsibilities as an actress."
  • The assistant director hurriedly conveyed her orders. "Let them fight for real!"
  • Everybody was dumbfounded. The current scene was one where the second female lead was eventually crippled in the fight. Were they really going to fight genuinely?
  • Even the martial arts stuntman could not bring himself to obey the order. "We can't do this. Why don't you talk to them?"
  • "No." Violet smiled. "Just follow her orders."
  • Natalie was targeting her anyway. Even if she went forward and begged Natalie for mercy, she would only suffer another heaping of abuse and humiliation.
  • More importantly, the supervisor had already signed the contract. So, she had to finish her role even if she was unwilling. It was because Natalie knew that fact that she dared to be so reckless and unscrupulous.
  • In any case, she was a professional stuntwoman. What were some light injuries in her line of work?
  • Violet was repeatedly knocked to the ground but stubbornly stood up again and again. At a certain point, the bruises on her back were so severe that no amount of concealer could hide the bruises from sight.
  • "Miss Reed, the stuntwoman might die if this continues." The assistant director broke out in a cold sweat.
  • In the end, the director lost his temper because the filming was progressing too slowly, and Natalie was forced to stop torturing Violet.
  • Violet expressionlessly changed back into her clothes and walked out of the film set.
  • As soon as she stepped off the film set, she caught sight of Brock standing at the entrance of the studio. He was wearing a pair of sunglasses and a baseball cap, thoroughly covering his face from view.
  • Did he come here to pick Natalie up?
  • She walked around him and strode toward the public bus stop.
  • "Violet," Brock called out to her softly.
  • She did not pause in the slightest, and her footsteps did not falter as she continued onward.
  • Chasing after her, he reached out and grabbed her arm. "Violet, why are you avoiding me?"
  • She shook off his arm without even looking back. "Why would I bother to avoid something that I can't even see?"
  • "Violet!" He gritted his teeth and forced her to turn around by pulling on her shoulder. "We were in a relationship for so many years. Must you be so cruel? Natalie and I are mutually in love. Why can't you give us your blessings?"
  • Violet clenched her hands that were hanging by her sides tightly into fists. Give them my blessings? The nerve of him! How dare he speak such words to my face?
  • "Even if I don't give you my blessings, will that stop you?" She sneered and laughed coldly. "You are a future film star who is about to enjoy great success in both love and career. So, please stop bothering a lowly stuntwoman like myself. It will only dirty your name and bring down your value."
  • After she finished speaking, she turned around to leave.
  • However, he stopped her once more. "Violet, how could you be so cruel?"
  • "Brock, didn't I tell you? Violet will never care for our relationship." Natalie, who had come to stand behind them at some point in time, gave a small sigh.
  • In contrast to the arrogant and domineering attitude she displayed in front of the film crew earlier, she slowly walked up to Brock with a docile appearance. She leaned into his embrace and gave Violet a pitying look. "Violet, I never imagined that this incident would be such a huge blow to you. I can't believe you even went and married the old and hideous Master Turner, who is known to have killed his two previous fiancées."
  • Violet sneered. Natalie is the student I painstakingly nurtured, after all. Her acting skills are superb!
  • "Violet." Brock's expression remained stubborn. "The Golden Bull Awards Ceremony will be held in one month. If nothing unexpected occurs, Natalie and I will be crowned the Best Actor and Best Actress of the year, respectively. Our value will soar when that happens. If you willingly make peace with us and continue guiding us in our acting, then I can consider rescuing you from the clutches of that vile man."
  • Rescue me? She practically snickered at those words. "My husband is handsome, my sons are well-behaved, and my family is happy. So, why would I need you to rescue me?"
  • He frowned. "Stop trying to deceive yourself. Everybody knows that Master Turner was disfigured five years ago. He is an ugly monster."
  • Natalie sighed once more. "As long as you continue to support us, we will make sure to give you a good funeral even if Master Turner kills you in the future."
  • The two of them cooperated together in this farce. Their hypocritical appearance made Violet want to retch out of sheer repulsion. In the end, they simply did not want to part with an unpaid worker who willingly slaved away for them.
  • She gave a cold snort. "Who said my husband is ugly? He simply prefers to keep a low profile. I wonder who was so jealous of his good looks that they made up such rumors. Did you really believe all the rumors? Is that why you're insisting that my husband is an ugly monster to my face?" While she spoke, she deliberately stared at Brock's face with an assessing look. Then, a trace of contempt flashed through her eyes. "You… You don't even have the right to polish my husband's shoes!"
  • "You!" Brock only managed to get one word out before she interrupted him mid-sentence.
  • "My husband is handsome and rich. But, more importantly, he not only dotes on me but is also devoted to me. Unlike somebody else, who easily gets dragged into another person's bed." She raised her eyebrows triumphantly. "I advise you to keep your mouth shut lest my husband hears your insensitive statements. Given how infatuated he is with me, he will make you wish you were dead."
  • She shamelessly bluffed without the slightest change in her countenance. It was not as though Henry could hear her anyway. After she finished speaking, she showed no interest in the colorful expressions of those two and immediately walked away in large strides.
  • Natalie glared at Violet's departing back and snarled through gritted teeth, "Brock was right to choose me. Not only are you unworthy and undeserving of him, but you are also delusional!"
  • Violet's footsteps faltered for a moment. In the end, she left without looking back.
  • Natalie snuggled into Brock's embrace and complained aggrievedly, "Violet was my stuntwoman today. She deliberately performed poorly, causing the progress of the entire crew to be slowed down…"
  • He pulled the woman into his arms, feeling sorry for her. "Don't mind her."
  • A luxurious Bentley was parked on the opposite road.
  • "Mr. Turner, didn't the two young masters ask you to pick Mrs. Turner up?" Patrick Wilde, Henry's assistant, stared at Violet's departing figure. "Mrs. Turner is leaving. We…"
  • "Follow her." In the back seat, a stony-looking man flipped through the pages of his document. "Also, investigate the identities of those two who were slandering me earlier."
  • Patrick nodded. "Do you plan…"
  • Henry gracefully picked up a fountain pen and made an annotation on the document. "Didn't my wife just say that I would make them wish they were dead?"
