Chapter 1004 Fourth-Tier Savage Beast
- Hearing that, Marcus Crawley’s face changed. He really hadn’t expected Brother Liu Fei to be hurt by a savage beast. If that’s the case, then the beast has to be taken out. “Alright, I’m in,” Marcus said. He turned and told Sadie Sugarman he was stepping out, then followed Lin Yan to the Forest Tower. There, he met the chief of the constabulary, Guo Zhengwei. Guo Zhengwei reached out with both hands, all warmth and respect. “Mr. Crawley, welcome.” Marcus gave a small nod. Guo Zhengwei laid out what happened. “From what we know, there are about five savage beasts inside. We don’t know their types or power yet. The special ops team we sent in before was wiped out. So this time, we’re counting on you.” His tone was solemn. The martial experts behind him saw Marcus show up and couldn’t hide the disdain on their faces. These guys were one in ten thousand, admitted into the Constabulary Special Ops only after layer upon layer of tests. They figured they were top-tier. They’d thought Lin Yan had found some legendary master. But it turned out to be an ordinary-looking young man. Yang Shenqiang said sourly, “I thought this guy was a big deal. Turns out he’s just some punk.” Li Mu burst out laughing. “People these days have no shame. Any random mutt dares to call himself a master.” Their words were nasty and grating—clearly mocking Marcus as useless. “Shut it! If you could do it, I wouldn’t have begged Mr. Crawley,” Guo Zhengwei barked. Li Mu and the others ducked their heads and kept quiet, though the contempt stayed on their faces. Marcus stayed calm. He’d been doubted more times than he could count. For him, the best comeback was to solve the problem and make the haters eat their words. Only strength makes people sit up. “Chief, I can take out the beasts. I have one condition: I bring a few of my students in to observe and learn,” Marcus said. That caught Guo Zhengwei off guard. This wasn’t a joke. If students went into the Forest Tower and anything happened, there’d be a media storm. If the higher-ups made him take the heat, that’d be a disaster. “Mr. Crawley, think this through. Taking students in there is dangerous. What if the beasts eat them?” Guo asked. “Yeah. Counting today, we’ve already lost over twenty martial experts. Think about it. If even our constabulary can’t handle it, forget those students,” Lin Yan said. She didn’t want this turning reckless. “Relax. They’re skilled. And I’ll watch their backs,” Marcus said with a smile. He knew the fastest way to push students forward was real combat in the Forest Tower. Paper drills don’t beat live fire. Zhang Xiaoqiang and the others always thought they were strong. Whether they really were strong came down to whether they had the guts to step into the Forest Tower. If they walked out alive, then they were the real deal. Marcus called Zhang Xiaoqiang and gave him the gist. “Got it, Mr. Crawley. Wait at the Forest Tower. I’ll bring the team now!” Zhang Xiaoqiang accepted without hesitation. Half an hour later. Zhang Xiaoqiang arrived with his close buddies, Han Bin and Lu Chen. Behind Lu Chen was a girl named Zhang Yanmei, also from the honors class. The four showed up acting all breezy and unimpressed. Seeing that, Guo Zhengwei’s heart sank. “Mr. Crawley, you sure about this? Can you really wipe out the beasts with them along?” Guo asked. “Of course. If anything happens, I take full responsibility,” Marcus said evenly. Zhang Xiaoqiang clicked his tongue. “Chief Guo, don’t look down on us, alright? We’re from the honors class.” Han Bin chuckled. “Yeah. A few beasts? Big whoop.” Ordinary students wouldn’t just balk at killing beasts—they wouldn’t even dare step into the Forest Tower. But Zhang Xiaoqiang’s group was different. They were honors-class students with real martial skill. To them, if they didn’t even dare go in now, they’d be a laughingstock. “Lu Chen, ever seen a savage beast?” Zhang Yanmei asked. “Nope. But my dad killed a third-tier one before. It even made the news,” Lu Chen grinned. Marcus waved them forward. “Let’s move. Think of this as extra credit. I’ll grade you after. Anyone who scores ‘excellent’ can start training the Bone-Tempering Method early.” The Bone-Tempering Method is taught in the latter half of the course. They’d only just started school and were working on breathwork like the Qi-Gathering Method. Starting Bone-Tempering early was like skipping a grade—a big honor. Zhang Xiaoqiang and the others lit up. “Mr. Crawley, you said it. No take-backs,” Zhang Xiaoqiang said with a grin. Ever since Marcus put him in his place last time, he’d been stewing. He wanted a chance to prove he was the best in the honors class. If he could slay a beast in the Forest Tower today, Marcus would have to respect him. “Everyone here heard me. I keep my word,” Marcus said, smiling. “Deal!” They headed into the Forest Tower. Just then, Guo Zhengwei called from behind, “Be careful! There are native residents inside. Don’t hurt them by mistake.” Marcus nodded. “Got it.” With that, he led Zhang Xiaoqiang and the others in. Outside, the sun was blazing. But the moment they stepped into the lobby, a biting chill hit them. Everyone shivered. “Damn, why is it so cold?” Han Bin swore. “You don’t know? Beasts are yin and cold. This chill is from them. The colder it gets, the stronger they are,” Zhang Xiaoqiang explained. “Not bad, boss. You even know that?” Han Bin looked impressed. “Otherwise why would I be your Boss?” Zhang Xiaoqiang laughed. The moment Marcus entered the Forest Tower, he opened his Sky Eye and swept across all of Mandoria.
