Chapter 11 Blood Boiling

  • A relentless downpour enveloped the city, causing Netherwood to feel suffocated.
  • Lily dashed towards Trash Peak, her tiny feet pushing her forward quickly.
  • Grandpa, you must survive.
  • Lily has returned.
  • Thirty minutes later, Lily finally arrived at the base of Trash Peak, finding the old man drenched in blood.
  • As Lily neared, the old man's body shook with an uncontrollable tremor.
  • He frantically shook his head.
  • He yelled out, "Lily, stay back, don't come any closer."
  • Don's men were faster than him in discovering Lily and rushed towards her.
  • Lily's petite legs were no match for the strong men.
  • The old man, summoning strength from who knows where, lunged at Lily with his hunched body, hugging her tightly to his chest.
  • "Grandpa, are you all right?"
  • Lily inquired with a raspy voice.
  • The old man embraced her firmly, taking laboured breaths. "Foolish, foolish girl ... why have you come here."
  • Lily examined the injuries covering the old man's body, attempting to halt the flow of blood with her petite hands.
  • "Grandpa, there's no need to worry! Dad will arrive shortly. He'll keep us safe.
  • "Grandpa, grandpa ... "
  • Don took matters into his own hands, gripping a metal pipe and advancing towards them.
  • "Beat him to death!"
  • Bang!
  • The sound of the steel pipe hitting the old man's hunched body echoed.
  • "Still won't let go?
  • "Still protecting her?
  • "Then go to hell!"
  • During the relentless downpour, the annoyance in Don's tone fused with the rainfall, washing the old man's blood into the forming streams of mud.
  • At last, the old man couldn't endure any longer.
  • With his remaining strength, he clung to Lily and whispered, "Lily, your dad cares deeply for you. Remember, you must live well. Grandpa loves you too."
  • Lily's heart was wrenching in pain.
  • "Grandpa, please don't leave me, don't die.
  • "Ah, Grandpa!!
  • "Is there no one who can save my grandpa!"
  • In the vicinity of Netherwood, near the Sugarmans' residence.
  • The ring of Sadie's phone broke the silence.
  • A sinister chuckle from Don met Sadie as she picked up.
  • "Sadie speaking," she responded with wariness.
  • However, before Don could utter a word, Lily's voice, filled with desperation, emerged first.
  • "Grandpa, grandpa, please don't die ... sob, sob, sob."
  • Sadie's body went limp.
  • Don went to the Trash Peak.
  • The old man who had protected them for five years was innocent.
  • Why did they have to lay hands on him?
  • "Mr. Trebec, whatever conditions you have, just tell me, don't make things difficult for them because of me," Sadie said anxiously.
  • Don grinned. "Sadie, that old man has already been beaten to death by us. I'll grant you some time, but rest assured, your daughter won't perish before dawn ... though I will slowly torture her, piece by piece."
  • Sadie felt a profound weakness consume her, and she was on the verge of fainting.
  • Don was fueled by vengeance for Devon.
  • Before Sadie could even utter a response, Don had already disconnected the call.
  • There was no chance for any negotiation.
  • A great battle was about to erupt!
  • Marcus observed Sadie as she completed the call, then inquired, "What's troubling you, Sadie?"
  • Tears cascaded down Sadie's cheeks as she murmured, "Marcus, this is all you're doing! Do you even grasp who Devon's father is? Huh?! Now, Don has headed to Trash Peak! You've doomed our saviour! He's going to take Lily's life and mine, too!"
  • Amid her sobs, Sadie clutched at the scars across her body.
  • These scars hadn't faded, even after five years.
  • For five long years, she had endured it all.
  • Yet, how could a woman of her standing confront a figure as formidable as Don in the underworld?
  • Her only path was to face death alongside Lily.
  • Marcus regarded Sadie with profound empathy and vowed, "Sadie, don't worry ... I'll handle our daughter's matter. No one in this world can harm you two."
  • At that moment, a flicker of hope seemed to light up Sadie's eyes.
  • She seized Marcus's arm and pleaded, "Listen, Marcus ... you must ask Clara for help. Clara now holds a significant position in Netherwood, and if she pleads with Don, there might just be a sliver of hope."
  • Clara was the very person Sadie despised, fully aware of her merciless and manipulative nature.
  • She knew that the incident back then was entirely orchestrated by Clara.
  • Yet, for her daughter's sake, she was ready to take any measure.
  • Even if it meant seeking forgiveness for what transpired at the wedding, even if it meant shouldering all the guilt.
  • "If she expects an apology for the past, I'm prepared to offer it. Please ask her to help me."
  • The request caused Marcus to shudder, his soul feeling as if struck by a brute force.
  • Plead with Clara?
  • That was out of the question.
  • He didn't see the need.
  • A person like Clara didn't deserve to be asked for help.
  • Marcus shook his head, declaring, "I don't need to seek anyone's assistance; I can manage on my own."
  • Seeing the indifference in Marcus's eyes, Sadie let out a sigh, followed by a smile. "Ha, indeed ... Why would I think you'd ask her on my behalf. If you won't, I'll go myself."
  • Then, she slowly walked away.
  • She turned a deaf ear to any of Marcus's explanations.
  • Marcus didn't feel inclined to explain his stance, with rescuing his daughter being the immediate priority.
  • At that moment, Maxwell arrived in haste.
  • "Mr. Crawley, the intelligence reveals that Devon's father is named Don! He wields immense power across Netherwood. Having once been a figure in the underworld organisation Black Dragon Springs, its revival has seen a surge in people flocking to Netherwood."
  • Marcus clenched his fists. "How many people?"
  • Maxwell provided an estimate. "Solely the Trebec alone amounts to thousands. With the reawakening of Black Dragon Springs, their numbers could be immeasurable."
  • Marcus's fists emitted a crackling sound.
  • Daring to endanger his daughter.
  • Messing with Don was a transgression.
  • Be it a thousand or ten thousand people.
  • He harboured no fear.
  • Marcus's tone was as forceful as thunder, bellowing, "Ignite the beacon!"
  • Maxwell was starkly alarmed by the command.
  • He instantly turns pale, "Mr. Crawley, the beacon must not be lit! It is reserved solely for wartime ... "
  • Marcus showed no hesitation. "Ignite it!"
  • Maxwell found it impossible to defy.
  • He promptly utilised his phone to contact the military department.
  • "Mr. Crawley has decreed the ignition of the Netherwood beacon!"
  • Upon receiving this news, the personnel within the military department were markedly agitated.
  • Their hands quivered.
  • Netherwood is a secluded region, and its beacon tower has stood for a century.
  • Could it signify the onset of a significant event?
  • The military department personnel dared not ignore the directive, and the beacon tower was illuminated.
  • The atmosphere in Netherwood was charged, with gunpowder scent pervading, flames ascending skyward, and the night illuminated as if by daylight.
  • Beneath the beacon tower, every guard of Netherwood was roused.
  • "What's going on?"
  • "Everyone, get ready!"
  • "Notify everyone, prepare for mobilisation."
  • The Netherwood War Department underwent an unprecedented transformation.
  • Blood was boiling.
  • The night air was filled with roars.
  • The silent approach of a king's wrath.
  • An imminent disaster was about to unfold.
