• Nathan returns a moment later, stepping inside and holding out the black canvas bag. I take it with a short nod, placing it on the edge of the counter and unzipping it with careful hands. The contents are neatly packed, organized by use and purpose, antiseptic, gauze, sterile gloves, suturing needles, everything I might need for field stitching, and in this case, removal and redoing.
• “I’ve got something I can give you,” I say as I slide on gloves. “It’ll help with the pain. Might make you a little drowsy, but it’ll make this easier.”
