  • The room was warm, the sheets tangled, bodies still slick with sweat and exhaustion. They had both used each other till most of the tension had left her. Not all of it. She still had a war to finish and nothing was going to stop her from that. Lucien lay on his stomach, one arm thrown over the space where Amara had been. His breathing was slow, deep. Dreamless.
  • But Amara was wide awake.
  • She sat on the edge of the bed, naked, her spine straight and eyes sharp as they stared into the flames of the fireplace. The light danced across her skin, flickering over the claw marks she’d carved into Lucien’s chest, the bruises he left on her hips.
