Chapter 5
- I looked at Lina, then at Alpha Mike, and said cheerfully, “If you want him, take him.”
- To me, someone who had lost all memory, he was no different from some items on display. Whoever likes it can take it. They don’t even have to pay for it.
- Lina happily threw her arms around Alpha Mike, but her expression quickly changed. I guessed it was because Alpha Mike looked stiff—as rigid as a statue.
- She stared at him, only to find him staring blankly at me, with a terrifying look in his eyes.
- “Anna, you really must have lost your mind. Do you even know what you’re doing?”
- The old me must’ve loved him deeply. So deeply that I had no dignity left?
- Maybe I’d done all sorts of ridiculous things—just like in those cheesy novels—giving up my hobbies, my career, running from hospital to hospital trying to get pregnant for him? That kind of me, stripped of every ounce of self-worth… Maybe people used to joke that I was nothing more than a loyal lapdog?
- And now, that very same me was handing him over with such indifference, like I didn’t care at all—he must be furious, right?
- “I’m fine now. My mind is clear, and I know exactly what I’m doing,” I said calmly, unconcerned.
- He looked at me like he didn’t believe it, eyes full of doubt. “You won’t regret it?”
- I glanced lazily at the couple’s rings on his and Lina’s fingers, smirked slightly, and said with a mocking tone, “Alpha Mike, if I’m not mistaken, the ring on your left hand is the same model as hers, isn’t it? Since she’s the one you love, what makes you think I would still want you? I don’t ask for much in a partner—but loyalty is non-negotiable. I’ll find someone who truly loves me, and we’ll live a solid, peaceful life together. A two-timing werewolf like you—must be mistaken by the Moon Goddess. What’s there to be sorry about losing you? Once I’m healthy, I’ll annul the mate bond with you.”
- After I said that, Alpha Mike looked down at the ring on his hand, looking a bit guilty.
- “You misunderstood. Your sister and I just… accidentally bought matching rings. These aren’t couple rings.”
- He quickly took it off and shoved it into his pocket.
- Tsk. He didn’t even glance at Lina, who was already tearing up.
- She looked crushed. Spinning her wheelchair, she rushed out of the room. Alpha Mike didn’t move, just watched her leave, his face as dark as a storm cloud, fists clenched.
- Finally, he left behind one sentence: “Anna, you’re not well right now. If I leave you at a time like this, I’d be heartless. Once you recover, if you still insist on leaving me—I’ll let you go.” Then he hurried after her.
- I looked at the IV drip and didn’t bother pretending to be strong. My body was too weak—what good would strength do now? But once I recovered, I’d separate from this irresponsible mate no matter what.
- I didn’t want such a filthy werewolf as my mate.
- The next morning, half-awake, I overheard the maids whispering as they tended to me.
- “Did you hear about Luna’s sister in the next room? Last night she tried to kill herself. Alpha stayed by her side the whole night, sweet-talking her nonstop until she finally calmed down.”
- “I don’t get it. She’s just a disabled Alpha werewolf. Not even a good match. Yet Alpha treats her like some treasure. He even schemed to get her sister back so he could get her a liver transplant. And now that she’s well, she’s back to playing the dying act again. How can someone so careless with her life be expected to take on the role of Luna for the pack?”
- “If you ask me, Alpha is blind—he brought this on himself. The one who truly suffers is the real Luna lying in that bed. They’ve squeezed her dry. Now that the sister’s healthy, she’s back to stealing Alpha. And Luna… she’s still so naïve, not even fighting back.”
- I curled up under the covers, nervously biting my fingernails.
- My once-bright blue eyes were now bloodshot, with a hint of something feral.
- After they changed my IV, the maids left.
- I slept restlessly until noon, then woke up starving. I hadn’t had breakfast and now felt like my stomach was trying to eat itself.
- I got up and asked the maids to prepare me something to eat. Maybe a medium-rare steak… or anything meaty, really. I was so hungry—I felt like I could devour a whole cow.
- Right after I gave my order, Alpha Mike showed up out of nowhere.
- His eyes were red, and there was something in his gaze I couldn’t quite read, maybe guilt?
- “Anna, let me take you away from here.”
- I was stunned.
- “Your presence here is… really affecting your sister’s mood. Her health is fragile, and keeping her happy is important. So, if you could just leave for a while—until she stabilizes emotionally—I’ll bring you back, okay?”
- I stared at the Alpha in front of me, unable to believe my ears… and then the maids’ gossip came back to me, echoing in my head.
- I grabbed the water cup from my bedside and flung it at him. He dodged just in time.
- “Alpha Mike, you make me sick. You want everything—how disgusting. If you love Lina so much, then just reject me and go live happily with her!”
- He didn’t get angry at my outburst. He simply walked over, and without a word, pulled me into his arms.
- “Anna, I know you’ve been wronged. Just this once—after I bring you back, I swear I’ll cut all contact with her. We’ll live a proper life together.”
- My stomach lurched, nausea rising uncontrollably.
- I ended up vomiting all over him. Furious, I pointed at him and shouted, “You’re revolting! Get out! I don’t want to see you!”
- Instead of letting go, he held me even tighter, sighing. “Anna, are you jealous? I know you love me. But Lina is your sister—you wouldn’t want to see her get hurt, would you?”
- I was so overwhelmed I couldn’t even form a full sentence. “Go… please—I don’t want to see you…”
- Finally, he let me go. “Anna, believe me—I’m not abandoning you. Just think of this as a little trip… at most three months. I will bring you back.”
- “Get out!” I screamed at him, my voice hoarse. A mouthful of bile and bitterness splattered onto his face. He finally left, reluctantly.
- I collapsed on the bed, drained like I had just fought a war.
- Out in the hallway, I heard Alpha Mike ask Pack doctor, “Anna’s vomiting a lot—what’s going on?”
- Pack doctor replied, “Luna’s body is still weak. And with all the emotional turmoil these past few days, her stomach is probably affected too. Vomiting is normal. Just make sure she eats on time—three meals a day, without fail…”
- Only then did he remember—he’d forgotten to bring me breakfast.
- Heh.
- But it was already noon. Who needed his breakfast now?
- Maybe his guilt would stir again, and he’d silently vow to make it up to me from now on.
- But promises like that? They were no better than a dog’s bark.
- As he was preparing to get me something to eat, the maid I’d spoken to earlier walked in—already carrying the lunch I’d asked for.
