Chapter 2
- He looked confused wondering why I hadn’t told him. Was there anything, as the leader of the Pack, that he couldn’t solve for me?
- Alpha Mike flipped open the contract Jery had tossed at him. The contents were laid out in great detail—everything was clearly priced, itemized, fair, and honest. A real bargain.
- But then, his pupils suddenly dilated as he read a certain clause, eyes wide with shock and disbelief.
- I figured… it was probably the terms of my “services.”
- Jery stood beside me, arms crossed, watching Alpha Mike with a leisurely smirk.
- The contract read:
- Clause One: Erase all memories related to Anna’s past—including her father, mother, and sister.
- Clause Two: Erase the fact that Anna was ever married, wiping all traces of Alpha Mike from her memory.
- Clause Three: Erase the painful memory of Anna’s kidney transplant during her near-differentiation crisis.
- …
- And the last line was for myself: “Anna, remember—loving yourself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.”
- I had read those clauses, but I still didn’t understand why the tall and dignified Alpha in front of me looked like he’d just been sucker-punched. His beautiful yet cold blue eyes were filled with rejection.
- He nearly lost control as he questioned Jery, his voice trembling with disbelief:
- “You forged this, didn’t you?! This is fake, right?! Anna is obedient and kind—she would never do something like this!”
- Jery gave him a slow smile.
- “Originally, this beautiful yet broken she-wolf only wanted to erase her memories of you. But once she saw how affordable my rates were, she added a bunch more services. Besides those clauses, we also made a verbal agreement—she gave me all the wealth she owns in exchange for wiping out every memory of her past life.”
- “In other words, this lady is now like a wanderer without a mind, without a past or a future. Do you still want to take her home?”
- “Anna, dear,” she turned to me, “if he doesn’t want you, I’ll send you to that cabin by Moon Lake like we discussed.”
- Maybe it was the mention of Moon Lake that shook Alpha Mike. His hands trembled slightly as he held the contract, and a crack formed in his expression.
- Maybe it was just dawning on him—those past few months, every time he visited me in the hospital, I was either resting or asleep. He never asked why. He only stayed a moment before running off to cheer up my sister, Lina.
- Only now did he seem to realize how much he had neglected me. After the surgery, I’d been planning all of this. All those naps and tired sighs? Just excuses. I simply didn’t want to see him anymore.
- I had already stopped wanting him long ago.
- And maybe realizing that made Alpha Mike’s expression darken, like he’d swallowed a fly.
- He had been completely outplayed—by someone as weak and helpless as me.
- He looked at the version of me who now had no memories, no schemes, only wide-eyed innocence… and it was like all the power drained from his body.
- Then, suddenly, he laughed bitterly, as if he had figured it all out.
- “Anna, drop the act. You’re a worthless, undifferentiated she-wolf. How could a so-called ‘witch’ really erase your memories? This is just a stunt you pulled because you’re jealous I’ve been spending time with your sister. You made all this up.”
- He reached for me roughly, trying to drag me away.
- Terrified, I flinched and dodged, desperately resisting. I clung to Jery’s arm, pleading:
- “Witch-sis, please, don’t let him take me! Look how cruel he is—he’ll never treat me well. Please, don’t give me to him!”
- Jery shrugged helplessly.
- “Anna, you’re the one who left me your contact info.”
- “I regret it!” I was so anxious I almost cried.
- Jery sighed softly and chose to stand her ground. She turned to Alpha Mike and said:
- “Now I understand why Anna was so desperate to erase every trace of her past and especially you. As her mate, you should’ve been the one person she trusted most. But from the way you’re acting… I can tell you never gave her even the most basic patience. You probably have no idea how much she’s suffered.”
- Alpha Mike’s grip on my hand slackened, his anger slowly fading.
- Jery continued,
- “Your Luna is suffering from severe psychological trauma. If I hadn’t helped her erase her memories, she wouldn’t have survived.”
- She leaned forward slightly, her voice lowering:
- “Do you know why she didn’t take her own life? Because she heard that suicides are punished by the Moon Goddess—never to be reborn. She couldn’t bear that. She’d had enough loneliness and abandonment. So when all other doors were closed, she came to me and took a gamble.”
- Alpha Mike’s eyes were now blood red as he stared at Jery.
- “Are you done? You’re just a lunatic scam artist calling yourself a witch. You actually believe your own lies? You think I’ll fall for your ‘memory-cleansing ritual’? You must’ve poisoned my Luna, made her lose her mind. She’s always been calm, obedient, and sensible!”
- Jery smiled coolly.
- “Believe what you want. I’ve said all I can. If you’re taking her back, treat her right. If not, send her to the cabin by Moon Lake. That’s the only place she wanted to go.”
- Alpha Mike gripped my hand tightly, glaring at Jery.
- “If you’ve done anything unforgivable to my Luna, I’ll drag you to the Werewolf Court myself!”
- Jery chuckled.
- “Alpha Mike, I assure you—I did nothing that goes against my professional ethics. In fact, the process went surprisingly smoothly… because your Luna was so very cooperative.”
- His gaze shifted back to me, filled with hurt.
- “Anna, if you don’t want to die, come home with me.”
- I shook my head desperately.
- While Alpha Mike was distracted talking to his assistant, I used every ounce of energy I had to bolt out the door.
- He froze, dumbstruck.
- I was running from him like he was a monster.
- Eventually, Alpha Mike found me curled up in a corner of the little cabin by Moon Lake—just like how he had found me once before.
- Only now, I was still that innocent, memoryless girl…
- But the man standing in front of me was no longer the person I once loved.
- Everything had changed.
